Don't Answer The Door - Ch. 30

Eva stared at the sky, noticing the sun has moved directly overhead. Has it been this long she wondered to herself. 2

"How long has Alex been gone?" She asked Nina.3

Nina did not respond. She was too shaken up from her fathers death, and didn't know what to do anymore. She was sitting on the front hood of the car with her head buried in her hands. 4

"Nina?" Eva decided to get up and walk next to her.5

"It'll be okay Nina.. I know you don't believe me right now, but it will get better, I promise." 6

There was a long silence, uncomfortable on Eva's end. She jumped up onto the front hood and sat next to Nina, wrapping her arm around her. 7

"You know something funny?" She asked in a monotone, her eyes glazing over as she looked behind Nina.8

Nina picked up her head from her hands and stared at Eva, her eyes red with tears.9

"What?" She asked.10

"I never knew my father. I was living a lie my entire life. I'm a bastard, Nina. My mom got knocked up by someone and told her husband that it was his. After he found out the truth.. he killed her. He killed my mom." 11

Nina stared at Eva, unable to think of anything to speak. She was partly thankful that Eva still had more to say.12

"After he killed her, he began raping me. I mean, I'm not his daughter, so what does he care? Right? I'm actually thankful for Cage at times. He killed Matt for me, he saved me. But he's not leaving us alone." Eva sighed.13

"You want to know about Alex? We all have a fucked up history don't we." She paused, then continued.14

"His father was framed for killing his mother and sister. They were found lynched in their own basement, and his father was framed for it. After he was locked up in prison, in the most secure cell, he too was found murdered. Can you guess who killed all of them? That's right, Cage." Eva said, not giving Nina a chance to answer her question.15

"Poor Alex. His mom's body was cut in half, all her insides ripped out. Same with his sister.." She said, chocking on her own words.16

Nina's mouth dropped, and she stared at Eva, gaping at her.17

"...His mother?... His sister?.." She asked, confused.18

"My.. my mom and sister.. they were found murdered like that.. in their basement."19

"What?" Eva asked, confused.20

"My mom, she got a divorce from my father and took my sister when she got remarried. I was only a little baby at the time.." Nina said, as tears welled up in her eyes again.21

"Are you saying.. Are you saying that your mom is also.. is also Alex's mom?" Eva asked, confused, but straining hard to make sense of this all.22

"Yes, I think so. I've always kept in contact with my mother. She got a son right when she married again. They put her husband in jail, saying he murdered them, but then they found him murdered as well. I didn't hear anything about her son ever since.." Nina said.23

"Nina! Do you know what this will do to Alex?!" 24

Nina shook her head no as she looked up at the sky, noticing dark gray clouds began to cover the sun, and fill the entire sky.25

"It will make him happy. Right now, he has no one other than me. He has NO family what's so ever, and he has a sister! Even if it's his half sister, he has a sister! Nina you're his sister! You have to tell him when he comes back!"26

"I'm.. I'm not alone either.." Nina said, goosebumps covering her entire back and arms.27

Eva jumped out of her place when she was startled by a strike of thunder. She began to feel little drops of water falling from the dark sky. She got off the hood and ran to the side of the car.28

"Get in Nina, before you get wet!" She said, screaming to be heard over the thunder.29

Nina got in the drivers side of the car and she closed the door, placing her hands on the steering wheel. Her eyes went to the rear view mirror and she saw her dead father resting in the back seat. She swallowed hard, trying not to burst into tears. It worked only a little bit, but tears continued to fall out of her eyes.30
