Would You Call Me A Problem?

Two strangers walked an empty street in the night. Walking on the same sidewalk about to cross each other. The man comes to a sudden stops and speaks some words that make her come to a halt.

"Would you call me a problem?"

At first glance she was apprehensive, looking at the young man in front of her... "No, why do you ask?" She ventured a little awkwardly, considering their circumstances...

He didnt take his eyes off the ground. Just standing there not showing his face to her he whispers lightly just loud enough for her to hear "Do you listen to the screams?"

"Sometimes. it's hard to ignore them isn't it?"

"Do their faces haunt you?"

"All th-- who are you? How do you know this?" She said frightened at his uncanny knowledge of the single thing she feared most in the world.

"Does it matter?" he gave a small sigh. "I run from my fears...hoping never to be caught...so answer me...Why do you run?"

"Why?" She laughed shakily as the tears came from her emerald eyes... "I run because... I run because..."

"Listen..." still not moving his eyes from the ground. "We can run all we want...but everything comes to a stop...you will be stopped by your wall sooner or later. Will you be ready sooner? or later?"

"Ready? Look at me! I...I ran away because... I'm a--- I'm a..."

"I know what you are...who you are..." he spoke in a haunting tone. "Can you say the same?"

"Y...Yes,"

"So why do you hesitate?" he lifted his gaze. He now looked at her straight into her eyes. He was so empty inside, so cold. No feelings...so dead. "Would you call me a problem?"

"No, they are the problem...

"We are just a part of the issue...they dont want us here...and we dont want to be here...do we?"

"No, but can't we make them understand us?"

"Do you want them to?"

A smile crept onto her lips... "No,"

He tapped his foot three times then looked deep into her eyes asking her to look into his. Still no feelings inside of him "Look into my eyes...Can you see their fear?"

She looked deep into his eyes, and found a wisp of light within... She slid off a silk glove that was on her right hand... And touched the right side of his pale face with her hands... Hoping to feel anything that would be left of his hauntings...

With no movement...no reaction. "Tell me the 3 truths" he asked a question to her that he knew was deep inside of her. Even though he knew it wasnt a question...she knew the answer.

She closed her eyes, the hauntings shadowing her memories... The screams more torrent then before... She suddenly no longer stood with the young man in the lamplit street, but she felt him pulling, bringing her back to life...

He gave a small smile but somehow it wasnt his "Finish my sentence..." he leaned over to whisper in her ear. "Forever we will remain..." he listened closely as only a single word needed to escape her breath.

"As one..."

Then all in a second she collapsed in his arms never to open her eyes again.
