Graveyard Memories

The graves are littered about1

With vines creeping into crevices2

All the flowers are dry in the vase3

I feel pleased nothing is out of place4

I feel welcome here5

As I trace the letters on a stone6

The outside spirits call my name7

Just as I thought: all is the same8

The crows in the trees are quiet9

The crickets in the grass are silent10

For in this graveyard here11

There is no reason to cheer12

By the root of a tree something shimmers13

I pull a bloodstained knife from the ground14

This couldn't possibly be15

The weapon the killer used on me16

I stick the knife back inside me17

The wound and weapon match perfectly18

I gaze at the dagger with a sigh19

As memories of the night pass by20

It was cold and dark to the senses21

As I was blindfolded and tied to a tree22

I began to cry as the killer teased23

Any torture I endured kept him pleased24

He threatened me with a painful death25

But his threat became a promise26

My heart pumped faster when he scared me once more27

But then it stopped when through it the knife tore28

I run my colorless fingers through the bark29

Where I tried to scratch myself free30

A tear falls but doesn't touch the ground31

For when I'm here I can't be found32

My senses come back to me33

My vision of this place was a dream34

This graveyard carries a heavy burden35

All of this I am certain36

My welcoming presence is gone37

A darkness begins to loom38

The outside spirits call once more39

But I don't wait for what's in store40

I try to leave as fast as I can41

Stumbling over rocks and roots42

There isn't an place to hide43

In the place where I once died44
