He turned and looked at me, so I looked back. He didn't let his eyes wander from mine. It was a locked stare. No one looks in another's eyes like that any more. He a stare of hard concentration, but yet with softness. My composure wouldn't allow me to hold that stare like he did, so I looked away, and I felt his eyes follow. 1
I looked back expecting him to have turned away, but his strong stare held my gaze again. I suddenly felt safe and the need to have his arms around me, holding me away from all the confusing expletives in our day. The term weak in the knees would make all of the sense in the world, but I wasn't thinking of that or anything. My mind held no thoughts, only the sight of his stare. 2
"Why do you always do that?"3
"What?"4
He gaze still held mine.5
"Stare at me like this."6
He looked down.7
"I don't know."8
"No, don't.., don't stop."9
And his face turned back to mine where I sought out with a hopeful smile.10
"Why?"11
"Because. The way I am feeling. It is new and I don't want it to go away."12
His face dropped down, and I turned away, face growing dark.13
"I'm sorry. If I took it the wrong way... We can talk about something else."14
I felt his hand on mine.15
"I haven't felt like this before either. And I don't know why, but when I see you, I can't look away."16
I smiled at my feet. He squeezed my hand. I squeezed his hand. We stood silent, just let the air circle and our minds wander.17
He said, "What do you want from me?"18
I said, "Your hand in mine. If we get cold, your arms around mine."19
And then almost as if we were part in a fairytale sunset, the wind grew and I felt him shiver. He pulled me closer. My head on his shoulder, I asked, "And what do you want from me?"20
He paused, and then said, "Your laughter in my ears, your thoughts in my head, your eyes staring straight back at mine."21
I lifted my eyes towards his, he looked back. He didn't let his eyes wander from mine It was a locked stare. No one but him looks in another's like that anymore.
