Mystical:Chapter 2:Missing

"Oof!"1

Its been a week since Sophya started training me, and right now I feel like I got hit by a train. Sure, I'm doing nothing too physical, but magic really takes things out of you. Well, I guess its worth it if I could blow stuff up with giant fireballs and zap people with lightning strikes.2

We were in the middle of our training session. It was during the weekend, and my parents were out to some company party. Sophya wanted me to focus on what you wanted to do. If you wanted to make the ground shake, for example, you had to visualize and feel the earth shaking until it could happen. Words and spells and large iron pots with newts eyes were just made up myths, Sophya said. A real magician can focus on many things and make them all happen at once.3

Right now, Sophya just wanted me to levitate a pebble, the basics, and I couldn't do it. Every time I tried, the pebble melted, or started smoking. Once, it even (somehow) caught on fire!4

Suddenly, there was a ringing sound. Sophya took her phone from her pocket and flipped it open.5

"Mmmhmm, okay, sure. Yeah, we'll be there. Of course I'll bring him! A little danger will help him. Fine, a lot of danger. Ok, ok I know the risks. Yeah, yeah. Do you want me to be there or not? Geez, I'm coming."6

With a loud clack, Sophya closed the phone.7

"Come on, lets go!"8

"Ermmm, where?"9

"The sewers, of course!"10

She gripped my hand and dragged me outside. She ran to the nearest manhole and dropped in.11

"Are you coming, or not?"12

"Uhhh... Is this legal?"13

"Probably not, but come on!"14

I sighed and dropped into the hole.15

"Oof!"16

I hit the ground with a thud.17

"Ummm, Sophya? Where are you? Hellooooo?"18

My voice echoed eerily around the dark, smelling tunnels. Suddenly, I felt somthing run over my foot. Instictively, I kicked out. I lost my balance and almost fell into the sewage.19

I slowly walked down the sewer tunnels, wondering where Sophya was, and clenching my nose shut against the horrible smell.20

Suddenly, someone grabbed me from behind and put a hand over my mouth. I tried to breathe through my nose, and I almost threw up.21

"Shhh, you idiot!"22

It was Sophya.23

"Sophya, don't surprise me like that! I almost threw up!"24

In the darkness, I say Sophya make a face and back off deeper into the sewers. She motioned for me to follow her. Standing next to her, I whispered,25

"Why are we here?"26

"We're here to investigate how three children went missing. They're probably dead by now, but we can prevent more children from going missing. The main culprit is a Narhoth, a minion of Malevolent. It likes to eat humans, particularly children."27

I gulped.28

"Aren't we children?29

"Shhh!"30

I paused and listened as hard as I could. I could here a sound of heavy breathing, and squelching and squishing. Suddenly, a dark shape loomed out. It was the Narhoth.31

With a terrifying roar, it leapt towards us.
