I was lying on my bed with my iPod in the dock listening to the ting tings. It was raining heavily outside the rain pattered against my window. I had an English textbook on my lap scanning quickly through the pages. I had reached the end and could recall every story and question. Then I had nothing to do. 23
Ihad gone through every textbook I had gotten that day from school, read everybook I had barrowed from the public library and memorized all the cook books in the house. I had to resort to actually getting up and doing something time consuming just to get through the rest of the afternoon. 45
Ijump off my bed and stretched my stiff limbs. I decided I would get something to warm myself up and turn the heater on. Just outside my room I walked down the stairs and into a large living room with contemporary furniture in reds and browns. In front of the staircase was a large oak front door.67
As I turned the corner I entered my kitchen, which had white walls and blue tilling in different places. I was walking on cold blue concrete like flooring. It felt like I was walking on an ice rink with no shoes on. Not fun. 89
I looked around not remembering exactly what I was doing in here. My eyes fixed onto a glass jar with plain chocolate bars inside. My mind filed through therecipes as I found the one for home made hot chocolate. “Perfectly time consuming” I thought to myself. Though it really wasn't1011
I walked over to the fridge and took out some 2% milk. I read the list of ingredients in my mind: sugar, chocolate, cinnamon and milk.1213
I took out the melting pot and filled the lower pot with water and placed it on the stove. I put chocolate in the top pot and let it sit. 1415
Asthe chocolate began to melt I took down the cinnamon and sugar from the cupboard and waited. 1617
I sat at the kitchen table as the chocolate melted. I shivered and noticed I had no jacket on. I snapped my fingers and waited to hear the roaring of the heater. “Click, click, click, click.” The heater started.1819
The chocolate in the pot had melted and was now boiling. I turned the stove off. But just as I reached for the milk the doorbell rang.2021
Who would be at my door in this weather? I just assumed it was the neighbors coming to check on me. 2223
I moved the chocolate of the hot burner and dragged my feet to the door. I flipped the lock and opened it to see that it wasn’t the neighbors but a tall man wearing a long black raincoat with the hood on, shading his face.2425
“Sherra?” He sounded kinder than he appeared.2627
I was surprised he knew my name, “Yes?” 2829
He removed his hood revealing a beautiful pail face; “May I come in?” he smiledhopefully. "My name is Tyler."3031
“Uuuhh…I---uuhh…” I couldn’t form words correctly, which was strange for me, his face was too distracting, “Yea,” I finally replied.3233
He chuckled at my response as he stepped into the house, removed his coat and hung it on the coat rack by the door. He looked around a little still standing by the door. 3435
“Have a seat.” I tried to sound elegant but I still sounded like an anxious teenager. 3637
He sat down on the large couch facing the fireplace. It was awkwardly quiet for awhile…for me at least.3839
I broke the silence, “So, why are you here?” 4041
He looked at me sympathetically, “You don’t like me being here?”4243
“No,No! I was just wondering.” I corrected franticly.4445
“Okay.I suppose I should tell you.” He crossed his legs and relaxed, “I was bored and thought I should greet the new girl.”4647
I was shocked at his answer I had expected something more urgent, “Ummm…okay. Why didn’t you talk to me at school?”4849
“I was a little busy.” I am the class president and I was already assigned a group of freshmen. Joseph usually greats the new sophomores.” He smiled at me kindly, his teeth were sharper than most peoples but something about it was pleasant and comforting, “I wanted to meet you in person, a lot of rumors are going around that you are human.” He cocked his head and raised his eyebrow.5051
“Who said that?” I walked over to sit in a chair next to the couch, “I am not.” 5253
“Well the town is thinking about evicting you it seems you have an enemy already.” 5455
I literally jumped out of my chair. “What! Who would say that! Oh my god! I have to talk to my parents about this, thanks for warning me.”5657
He began to stand up and I just about had a panic attack. “Wait! Don’t go, I am lonely and I like you being here.” I jumped up to grab his wrist.5859
“Well! Okay, I will stay. I like being here.” He sat back down and made himself comfortable, “Tell me about yourself.” 6061
That started the best conversation I’ve ever had. We talked until we had nothing more to say. And though we had talked for three hours it still felt like there was so much more to learn. 6263
