Chapter Fourteen1

We stayed in that perfect meadow all day. And I cherished every single moment of it. He was so perfect, and beautiful, especially in that light. He was certainly an angel. I wasn’t worthy of his presence. 4
When I told him so, though, he glared at me.5
“Says the angel whom I’m counting my blessings doesn’t send me to the curb, because my life would be ruined if that happened,” he said, his hand in my hair.6
I laughed.7
He looked into my eyes. “I’m not kidding, mon amour. I am not an angel; that is you, my beautiful, perfect little angel.” My heart was beating so fast that I couldn’t even argue with the ‘little’ adjective. “And don’t you ever, ever say, or think that you’re not worthy of anything again. You are worthy of the entire world, and so, so much more. And so much more than me,” he said into my lips.8
I would have sworn my heart would beat out of my chest.9
I stared into his eyes. “You are my favorite person in the whole wide world,” I said, simply. I may have fancied myself a writer, but hell, I never was one to be able to talk in the moment.10
I was rewarded with my smile on his face, and he grinned.11
“Really?” he asked again, and I couldn’t help pecking his lips.12
“Absolutely,” I said, hugging him close.13
I couldn’t keep from touching him, and apparently, he was the same. I don’t think that he stopped touching me for more than a few seconds all day. I don’t think if he had, I could have taken it.14
The day was so picturesque, the most beautiful I had ever had. 15
We stayed until the sunset; he had brought chocolate covered cherries and strawberries. The God.16
The sunset was so beautiful; I cried, and laughed. The colors were so bold, so gorgeous, so perfect. Just like the best friend beside me.17
I still had the sunflower behind my ear when the sky was almost black, and it was night. I couldn’t believe he’d done this for me, and yet, I could. It was so… Aiden.18
And he moved to his car, and turned on the radio. I swear, my heart was going crazy all through that day. He turned on the music, and came to me as they played the most beautiful song.19
And he asked me to dance. In the dark, in a beautiful meadow, this perfect God of a creature asked me to dance with him.20
And so I accepted.21
We moved, slowly and gracefully, under that moon that was already shining. He leaned his head into my hair, and mine was on his chest. And he sang to me. The beauty could sing, and in my ear I heard the most beautiful thing I have ever heard in my life.22
“…It’s you and me, and all of the people, and I don’t know why, I can’t keep my eyes off of you… I'm tripping on words, you’ve got my head spinning, I don't know where to go from here… I can't quite figure out, everything she does is beautiful, everything she does it right…” When the song ended, tears of joy were in my eyes, and he kissed my ear, so softly, and the turned to look down into my eyes, and he smiled, that vulnerable, sweet smile. And I kissed his lips so gently. There was nothing wrong with this man. He was better than life itself.23
“My Serenity,” he moaned into my lips, and he pulled me up, into his arms, and cradled me to his chest like a baby. I laid my head to his shoulder, completely at ease in his arms. He let himself fall to the ground and let his forehead fall against mine, staring into my eyes. “I never want to let you go.”24
“So don’t,” I barely was able to say. He kissed me again, holding the back of my head and the small of my back. I let him, and kissed him back, not caring for time or place or anything save the moment.25
When it was time to go, I asked Aiden if we could come back again sometime.26
He promised that any time I wanted, he would bring me back. And so when he carried me again in his arms, wrapped in the blanket, and put me in the car, buckling me, I wasn’t sad to leave. I was so in love; I couldn’t explain the happiness I felt in words.27
He picked up the leftovers of our day, and our picnic, and the bouquet of flowers he’d picked me, setting them all in his backseat.28
In the car, he put a pillow in the space between his front seats, and I laid on his shoulder. He stroked my hair with one hand as he drove, and hummed to me, leaning down every time we stopped, at stop signs, or lights, to kiss my forehead, or my cheek, or my temple, or my hair.29
A smile was, no doubt, on my lips as I was lulled to sleep by the car ride and his voice.30
