Shadow of Dream1
I’ve been chasing after a fragile dream
That would never come true
Reaching out, my hand only grasps emptiness
I close my eyes and let the light illuminate my blinded soul
“That day will come,” The words echo a thousand more times.2
Running, chasing the shadow of yesterday
I wonder where it will lead me
The dying sun stains the azure sky crimson for the last time
Before being swallowed by the darkness
Suddenly, the shadows grow bigger and slip through my paled fingers.3
That place I can’t reach, I still gaze at it longingly
For now I can only look beyond the glass and sigh with lament
“The metal chains that bind my soul will someday be severed,” I keep believing
But the days evolve rapidly, leaving behind a trail of the changing seasons
And I remain here, frozen and unchanged.4
The young caterpillar dreams inside her warm cocoon
Someday she will emerge as a beautiful butterfly
Spreading her gorgeous wings to the vast, empty sky
That day will come, surely
But until then, she continues dreaming in the dark, silently.5
The book I am holding is still empty
Like the lonely heart that dances to its own requiem
The silence of the wind flips the blank pages over; I feel lost somehow
But I won’t look back down the road; I’ll continue walking, just like this
And slowly the book starts to fill, even if it’s just one page at a time.6
I’ve been chasing after a fragile dream
That I silently wish would come true
Reaching out, my hand only grasps emptiness
But surely, the day will come when I’ll be able to write “The end”
With the same hand that has never learned to let go of an empty dream.

Moving.
Beautifully done.
This is a really well written piece. When I read it the first time...I didn't really appreciate it. Yet, when I focused on the poem--it's prose, it's message...it is so heartfelt...so touching.
By the way, line 9 reminds me of the house cup that Azure will get (hopefully): "The dying sun stains the azure sky crimson for the last time." x)
Keep writing, Kuchi!
