It was the seventh grade. I met her when I was sitting alone at the lunch bench. She was pretty and had dark hair. Boldly, she walked right over and plopped down next to me. I turned my head in surprise, realizing that I had never seen her at school before.1
"Ummmm.... Are you sure you wanna sit there cause-"2
"What? You think you're to good for me?"3
"Huh? Oh! No! It's just that everyone here stays away from me, like I have a horrible disease or something. Wait! I don't have a disease, I've never been sick before in my life!"4
Suddenly, I clamped my mouth shut. One of the reasons that people shunned me were because of the fact that my small wounds seemed to instantly heal, and my broken bone healed in 3 days. But the main reason was THE Incident that occured during first grade. Of course, it's not the time to get into that right now.5
After listening to what I said, the girl stopped and thought. Then she smiled and said,6
"What else? Anything else unusual that I should know about?"7
By this time, seeing that she hadn't run away screaming yet, I decided to tell her about the Incident.8
It was the first grade, and I was sitting down on the carpet and playing with some toys. You know, the big legos and the other blocks. Well, I was trying to build a large tower. But some kids kept running over and knocking it down, on purpose. So I decided to give it up and start building a large rock. But still, every time the other kids came over, the continued to knock it down. Finally, seeing the teacher did nothing, I walked over to the teacher and told her what had happened.9
"Be a big boy now, James, and go tell them to stop."10
Then the teacher continued to read her magazine. So I walked over to the kids, and what do you know? They didn't listen and decided I was a much more fun object to push over. After pushing me over repeatedly, I got mad. Not the normal, everyday mad, but somthing seething, burning, and melting over me. Instead of giving me a red eyesight, I saw everything clearer and more vibrant. The kids were going to push me over, but when they touched my arms, they screamed and ran away. Some ran to the drinking fountain to cool down their skin, others ran to the bathroom. But the ones that were still near me floated and were thrown into some bushes outside. The teacher had finally seen what had happened, but only the part where the other kids were burned and/or thrown into the bushes. She was trembling visibly when she approached me, and told me to walk home early. My house was only half a mile away, so i nodded and turned back.11
After I finished telling my story, she nodded solemnly and turned back to the table and continued to eat her lunch. 12
"Oh wait, what's your name?"13
"Sophya, you?"14
"Oh, my name is James. My last name is Masters."15
Upon hearing my last name, her eyes open wide. Suddenly, she started coughing, and I had to whack her back to stop her from choking.16
"Thanks."17
"Anytime."18
She smiled and finished off her lunch. Then she walked away to the library.19
I still had half my sandwich left when the bell rang. I stuffed it into my mouth and ran off to class. For the whole day, all I could think about was how Sophya seemed extremely surprised when I told her that my last name was Masters. I started running home at top speed when the bell rang. I unlocked the door and ran in, only pausing to kick off my shoes. I opened up the computer and waited impatiently. I typed in the password, and it started loading. After half a minute, I opened up the internet and googled in Masters. There was nothing relevant, just some things to do with tennis, college, and adult fitness and excersise.20
I sighed and I shutdown the computer. I walked to the kitchen and made myself a large sandwich. Suddenly, there was a knock at the window. I was going to bolt for the phone to call 911 until I saw who it was. I smiled and gave a sigh of relief. I opened up the window and Sophya crawled in.21
"Hey Sophya, how did you know I lived here?"22
"Well, I just followed you."23
"So you stalked me?"24
"Harshly put, yes."25
Thinking about todays events, I decided to ask her why she seemed so surprised when I told her that my last name was Masters.26
"Well James, you are a wizard, if everything you told me was correct. Wizards don't get sick because even their bodies are magical, and ward of disease. They also heal quickly for the same reason. Your grandfather was a quite famous wizard, best known for sealing Malevolent when it rose up from the earth. But, your parents aren't wizards. Such things might skip a generation or two. If they were wizards, they would have told you already. Now, I'm a scout for promising wizards, and I'm here to take you to wizard school. Or, you can stay here and I'll train you. But I have work to do too, and it will be dangerous if you stick with me."27
I thought about my parents, and how they would react if I suddenly disappeared. I said,28
"Well, I'm staying Sophya."29
"Oh good! Now lets get started!"30
"Now?"31
"Now!"
