I want to write a Novel Because...1
When sitting down to write this exercise I was under instructions not to write about why I want to be a writer or why I write.2
I must admit for me it was a hard concept to grasp because every ounce of my soul wants to spill my emotions and reasoning for being a writer and why I love writing. Instead my goal, my aim if you will and my challenge it to express purely why I want to write a novel.3
It sounds funny to be asking myself why I want to write a novel when I already am, and have done so before today.4
My current count of novels (Nothing Flash) is Five. I have written Five novels all ranging from 40,000-50,000 words and some. So why would I want to write another novel? Why do I want to be a novelist?5
The point of the exercise is not to write about why I want to be a novelist. Anyone who knows me knows my passion and adoration for writing so it comes easy and is self-explanatory why I want to be a novelist: because I write novels. I am embarking on an exercise to define why I want to WRITE a novel.6
It should come easy to me, my reasoning, at least in my own head it does. It seems stupid that I am sitting here at the computer, music blaring in my ears, passion burning through my fingertips while I stare at the screen and the collection of novels on my bedside table and in my cupboard. But here I am scanning the covers, reading the blurbs and reading the novel itself, bit by bit losing myself in another authors art work.7
It comes to me. My reason for wanting to write a novel.8
It has nothing to do with fame, fortune or popularity. To be known, to have posters hung in bookshops and libraries. No not at all, I do not want to write a novel to make money or to have my novel made into a movie. I want to write a novel for many reasons and none of those reasons above have any justification to my truth.9
I want to write a novel because... 10
Why is this so hard to give a reason? Why is it so difficult to let my fingers fly across the keyboard and spill my intentions? Why is it so hard to get into my head space to search for an answer? When the answer is right in front of me.11
I want to write a novel because: To me writing a novel is a timeless journey that I take in order to free my mind of the ideas, story line's& plot lines. 12
I want to write a novel because: I want to learn about the world in which we live in. I want to learn about how the human psyche. I want to learn what makes people tick and why people act the way they do. Why people say the things they say and why they don't say the things they want to.13
I want to write a novel because: I want to tell a story. I want to get deep in someones life, my characters lives and explore who they are as people, as animals on the page and on the screen. I want to unleash their lives and live their lives inside my mind and in the pages of my notebooks.14
I want to write a novel because: I want to escape reality. I want to escape the hells of life. I want to escape whatever problems I have going on in my life. I want to escape to a world created completely by me where I am in charge, where I make things happen and not happen. Where I can escape and watch my characters come to life and so that these characters, my babies may grow before my eyes. 15
I want to write a novel because: I want to see pages piled up on my desk, scattered and cluttering my space. I want to feel the paper between my fingertips and hold my rough draft copies in my hands. I want to scan each page seeing my achievements spread out before me. I want to fill display books with pages and pages of my characters stories, my characters lives. I want to see notebooks with every page filled with my creativity.16
I want to write a novel because: It gives me the chance to share my writing and to get feedback. It gives me a chance to share the journey with other writers and non-writers. It gives me the chance to unleash my creativity with other novelists how are going through the same journey, enabling me to connect and to express my feelings and emotions about the writing I am producing. 17
I want to write a novel because: I want to connect with people. I want to relate to people and I want people to relate to the characters and situations in my novels. I want touch people emotionally. I want to make people cry, to cringe, to smile and laugh and coil up in hatred of my characters. I want to help people grow, to learn, to love and to see things that they cannot see in reality.18
I want to write a novel because: It gives me the chance to be personal. It gives me the chance to write for one person and one person only and if I can reach and touch that one person, while ultimately touching many more than to be that is contentment. And for me to write a novel is time spent in contentment. 19
I want to write a novel because: I simply love to write. I love the written word in any form. I love the freedom it entitles me. I adore the friendship and courage it brings. I love the emotions it brings to life inside my head. I love how it makes me see the bigger picture and teaches me not be so narrow minded. 20
I want to write a novel because: I know I can. I have done so before and I will do it again. I have the determination, the passion and perseverance. I have the time. I have the motivation. I have goals and aspirations. I have a dream.21
I want to write a novel because: I want to, not because I have to. No one forces me to write a novel. It is not my job, but I see it as one. It is not a nine to five job, no not all all, But I treat it like any worker would. With diligence, keeping to my word.22
I write a novel because: I want to challenge myself. I want to continually grow, learn and expand on my knowledge and my writing skills. I want to challenge others to write and to read and I want to guide people through the process showing them my own methods and process in writing a novel.23
There are so many reasons in my mind why I want to write a novel. Some are buried deep in the back of my mind and are jarred because the question is such a broad one to me. To me I could go on forever with reasons why I want to write a novel all of them true to me. All of them my own reasons and no one else's when it comes to my novels. But it all comes down to one thing in the end.
I want to write a novel because: I am a novelist.

Excellent writing project...
...however...and this may be something you can not know at your stage in life...but, all true artists are driven to perform, not just writers of novels.
another, 'however', being 'driven' does not include the ability to write a novel, that must be learned, just as the instrument of the musician or the tools or a painter of sculptor.
Perhaps be not so quick to disregard the 'money making' side of writing...when you are no longer supported by your parents and have to work for a living...would it not be wonderful to earn your way by writing?
Well done piece...

I'm pretty sure everyone on storywrite would appreciate this and feel inspired. You have come up with amazing reasons and they all make me feel motivated to actually do something. I've been sitting around for a long time just waiting for my passion to spark, but I...I need to want to write.
This is so good and you have definitely inspired me!!! I want to write a novel because I love writing, I love everything about it. I love the way it fills me with power and the way it feels when I look back at MY creation. I love the escape, most of all, and the way it has saved me from myself many times before.
Write, write, write, love. Never give up!

Amazing
I loved that and it made me choke up. It is most of the reasons why I write also. The pacing was great, it made me want to keep reading to find out your reasons. I had to wait for them and I liked that. The last line is very powerful. The only comment I have is #10 say's I want to write a novel because... then each paragraph begins with it, I understand your reasoning for it I just don't know if it really makes more of an impact doing it that way. Just a suggestion...
Great read and again I loved it.
