‘We don’t exactly know but it seems she lost a lot of blood and were not certain but we think she might have taken an overdose of two different drugs, we know that she took about 21 paracetamol but we don’t know the other drug as there isn’t enough of it in what’s left of the blood system to identify’ she explained ‘That’s what made her flat line, all the blood loss and overdoses caused a lot of unnecessary strain on her heart. We were hoping that you might be able to get out of her what else she took’1

‘Ok Meg and I will try but she’s very secretive’ Anna-lee replied.2

She walked over towards Lou ‘Lou, hun, what have you taken? Please tell us we don’t want you to die or flat line again’ asked Anna-lee. Meg came over and shoved Anna-lee out of the way ‘Lou please just help us here’. Lou looked away from Meg but talked to her ‘don’t push Anna-lee out of the way like that, I know you don’t like her but I do, very much so’ she said tiredly ‘I don’t know what I took it was something like aspirin’. 3

Meg walked out of the room to see the nurse and tell her what Lou had taken mean while Lou tried to sit up but because of the blood loss she felt dizzy and lay back down. ‘I really want to get out of this hell hole’ she said with meaning, her startling green eyes looking around the room, her black and red hair brushing the pillow as she moved her head. “We’ll try get you out soon….” Anna-lee said knowing that Lou wouldn’t be out of here for a while. ‘But I think social services are going to want to talk to you later’ she added. Lou sighed she knew Anna-lee was right, after what she had done they weren’t going to let her go that easily. 4

Anna-lee heard Meg come back and draw up a chair beside Lou’s bed, her eyes red and puffy from crying, her long hair was a mess. Although Anna-lee didn’t like Meg she felt sorry for her, this had got to be hard for her but it didn’t stop her making snide remarks. Meg was thinking back to when, before Lou flat lined, Anna-lee had said about knowing things she didn’t, she wandered what it was that Lou hadn’t told her. She looked up towards Lou then at Anna-lee. Lou had a look of exhaustion and hopelessness and Anna-lee had the same dreamy expression that she always had when she was around Lou but it was masking another emotion, one that Meg couldn’t place. ‘Anna-lee what did you mean earlier when you said you knew things I didn’t?’ Meg began to ask nervously in case she didn’t like the answer. Anna-lee didn’t reply straight away but smiled to herself ‘Are you sure you want to know?’ she said slyly answering a question with another one, already knowing what was going to be answer but right on cue Lou flashed her eyes in warning at Anna-lee as if saying don’t you dare ‘But why shouldn’t I? It’s not lies now is it?’ Anna-lee said spitefully not expecting an answer. Lou looked away with tears in her eyes and Anna-leeinstantly looked guilty ‘I’m sorry... I didn’t mean to  ...’ she started but she could see it was no use; she had pushed it too far this time. 5
