Rolling her eyes and turning to the waitress who just came back, Tenten ordered a salad while the studio forced Neji to order ramen noodles. The waitress also collected the smoothie cups and replaced them with water. Neji was beyond grateful for the water. He slurped it up like a dog, just like the studio said.1
After being left alone silence took control of the date. Nothing was said for an uneasy 5 minutes. Tenten was looking elsewhere in the restaurant wishing she was enjoying her night like everyone else. Neji just stared at her, but she didn’t notice. The voice said nothing maybe wanting to make the moment awkward. Neji kept waiting for the over-exaggerated deep voice and it finally came.2
“Say how nice the weather is,” came the big boom of a voice. 3
“The weather sure is nice tonight,” commented Neji and Tenten returned her focus back to her date.4
“It’s raining cats and dogs out there and then there’s the thunder and lightening. What is up with you tonight,” replied Tenten.5
“Just being a gentleman,” said the voice and Neji repeated what it said. No comment. Tenten took a sip of her water and Neji tried to fix his microphone. Is he picking...his ear, wondered Tenten as Neji fidgeted with the mic.6
“The get-together this afternoon was relaxing. Hinata can sure bake a great meal,” said Tenten trying ever so hard to create a normal conversation.7
“It’s one of her hidden talents. I never knew of her love for cooking until a few days ago,” replied Neji happily the voice not intervening this time. They began talking about anything and everything with not a single word coming from the studio. The conversation did bounce around, but at least it was somewhat normal.8
After chatting for awhile their meal finally came. The salad and the ramen noodles actually looked delicious without any extra or strange ingredients in them; each meal had a rather large piece of bread with them and a cup of fruit. They began eating contently. This date might turn out ok after all, thought Tenten. 9
Her quick assumption was a bit too optimistic. The studio’s commands had ceased for awhile making Neji extra gullible. 10
“Eat the noodles with your hands,” said the voice into Neji’s ear. He always seemed to obey at the extremely dumb commands that proved fatal to the date. Neji dropped down his fork and began using his fingers as utensils. Without realizing he flicked a noodle into Tenten’s hair.11
“Hey watch where you’re... flinging...why are you eating with your hands,” exclaimed Tenten.12
The voice now told Neji to continue eating with his hands but occasionally chuck a few at Tenten. After just a few noodles Tenten was fed up with his strange spasms of immature behavior. She picked up a spoon, dipped it into the ranch dressing, and flung it at Neji.13
The ranch slapped him in the eye. Neji retaliated by taking the pepper and salt and shook them all over Tenten; she started sneezing heavily. Grabbing a piece of bread she hurled it at him, yet he dodged. And so the food fight began.14
They began throwing the lettuce and noodles at each other. It was Neji who first noticed the buffet in their reserved room; he quickly ran to it, marveling at all its food. Neji grabbed pickles and started his attack with them. Tenten flicked more and more dressing at Neji while he opened a ketchup bottle and squirt it all over her; Tenten joined him at the buffet. While he kept up the continuous flow of ketchup, Tenten found a bottle of syrup and squeezed it all over him. Then Neji found the gravy and Tenten found bacon bits that stuck to Neji due to the sticky syrup. The fruit cups were flying through the air. The fight raged on.15
No one had seen the ordeal except for a few waiters who desperately tried to get help from the manager but she refused to listen. She couldn’t and wouldn’t believe that there was a food fight in her restaurant. One waiter attempted to break it up, but he was pelted with food and was now hiding under one of the tables. Nobody was sitting in this reserved spot, but they could all hear a ruckus. Rumors about it spread until they reached the manager herself. 16
The manager stormed into the room. What she found was unexpected: two teenagers covered and dripping with food from the messy buffet, a waiter hiding under the table, and a big mess about the room.17
“WHAT THE HECK!!! How could you two possibly make this big of a mess? Get out of my restaurant immediately!” shrieked the manager. Tenten and Neji surveyed the clutter of everything and then scampered out of the restaurant with the manager yelling behind them. To their dismay the rain was still coming down. They just sat on the curb waiting for their ride. A car went flying past drenching both with muddy water. So there was Tenten and Neji just sitting and waiting and waiting. The microphone fell with a PLOP in a puddle of water.18
“What is a mic doing in your ear,” asked Tenten. Neji didn’t reply.19
The limo came to a screeching stop in front of them, dousing more water on them. The door flung open and the two stepped in, soaked and all. The limo made its way back to the studio...20
