17 Year Old Girl in a Fashion World (Contest Entry)

I stared down at the empty paper. I only had an hour to make a fabulous design for the world's best fashion designer. My mind was clogged with different ideas, but none of them popped. I heard the door slowly creep open, and I saw my infuriating co-worker, Joanne.1

"Hey Michelle. Looks like making a big design at 17 is too hard."2

"No, Joanne. I can do it."3

"Oh really? I could take it for you if you like."4

"Joanne, I'm not letting you take this. This was assigned to me, and that means I'm gonna do it."5

"Ooh. Looks like the little girl has a big attitude."6

"No Joanne, I just have the brain to do what I'm supposed to."7

Joanne walked out of the room. I could tell her mind was in an enigma. I knew that I should not talk back to an older co-worker but she was getting on my last nerve. I looked at a painting nearby. There was a tall, brunette woman wearing a fabulous outfit. Too bad that I couldn't have thought of that design first. 8

I signed my name at the bottom of the paper. Michelle Rose Barmel. I read my name over and over. Rose, that's it! I took a thin ivory pen and I began to trace the outline. Somebody knocked on the door. 9

"May I come in?" The man asked.10

"Yes."11

I suddenly realized that the man was famous fashion designer, Antonio Lorie. 12

"Oh my gosh, you're Antonio Lorie!"13

"Yes, darling. I heard that you were making me a design?"14

"Well, I'm still working on it."15

"How much time do you need?"16

"Well, I just thought of the idea and I have the outline of the shirt, so maybe around an hour or so?"17

"Alright. Do you mind if I watch you?"18

"Not at all."19

Antonio pulled up a chair next to me and watched draw in some lines on the what-should-be silky shirt. I began to feel sweat drip down my neck. The world's most famous designer was watching me design! I drew some lines on the long, black skirt. 20

"Ah, very nice, um, what is your name, darling?"21

"Michelle Rose Barmel." I said quickly with joy striking me.22

"Nice designing, Michelle. Continue drawing!"23

"Alright." I said slowly.24

I looked back at the thick piece of paper. I drew a rose on the shoulder of the shirt, and small roses at the bottom. I then put big roses at the bottom of the skirt and medium-sized roses along the edges of it. I sketched a small rose hair-piece that would match with the outfit perfectly. Thank goodness, I was done with the outline of it.25

The vivid red pastel seemed to be staring at me, so I decided to pick it up and lightly trace over the roses with it.26

"Nice color, Micki."27

"It's Michelle, and thank you."28

"Oh, I'm terribly sorry, Michelle. Keep coloring in the outfit."29

I continued coloring all the roses with the bright red pastel. Once I had finished, I picked up a pale pink color to color in the rest of the top and most of the skirt. I picked up an earth tone green and began to draw leaves into the skirt. I thought the outfit was beautiful, but it was Antonio's opinion that counted.30

"I...I..."31

He didn't like it. Why me? Why me?32

"I...LOVE IT!"33

"Really?" I asked.34

"Yes! Everything about it is great. The design of the outfit is great and the colors really bring it to life! I will use this one!"35

"Thank you so much Mr. Lorie!"36

"Your welcome, and call me Antonio."37

"OK!" I blushed.38

I walked Mr. Lorie -- I mean Antonio to the elevator door. Joanne walked by. She realized that Mr. Lorie was holding a paper, but just not one with her design on it. 39

"Congratulations, Michelle."40

"Thanks, Joanne. And don't worry, there will be other chances."41

Joanne stomped into her dark office with a bright red face.42

Mr. Lorie's elevator was here. He stepped into the elevator and held the door open.43

"Nice job, and I will see you soon." He remarked.44

"I sure will!" I said as I stepped into my office and ran to lay on the couch.45

"What a day it has been. Maybe I'll do it again tomorrow."46

THE END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (for now (creepy organ music plays))47

I liked that it didn't have conflict. Most of the stories here are emo devastatingly boring without any form of happiness anywehre and when you click random it shows one of the most usual stories there ever was. It was happy and I liked it. Great job!

    Nice....

This was really sweet, light-hearted story. I enjoyed reading this very much. It's so funny how the older co-worker is jealous of the younger one. Her designs can't be as fabulous as hers. This well done.

    Nice job. (:

This is really good. I would have liked it if it had been a little longer. I also would have liked to see a little more of a problem, and i know that you had 1, but, in my opinion, it wasn't very long-lived. i think this is very good though!
