Changes (chapter 11)

The very next day she had to return to school, unsure of what to wear she grabbed a new pink shirt her mother had bought over the weekend and a pair of tight blue jeans. Jamie proceeded toward the bus stop where she saw Chris waiting for her. Why was he here? He attended a private school out of town, and should not be awaiting her arrival at the bus stop if he was to be at school on time. 1

Confused as to what he was up to, she went and gave him a giant hug. He returned the favor with a small, short kiss upon the lips. She pulled back, and then gave him a look. The look was so spiteful, and full of hate. Chris then backed off, and began to stare at the ground. Jamie, then ran over to him, and handed him a letter. She had written the letter the night before, when she had sniffed the white out. Over and over she had had to white out a sentence because it just was not perfect, and not exactly what she wished to say. This letter had to be perfect, and not too harsh, for it was full of every thought that filled her head. 2

He reached out for the letter, and opened the envelope. Jamie then screeched and told him to wait until later. He gave off a great sigh, then stared down the street, because he saw the bus coming. He gave her a hug, then climbed into his car. They waved good bye as Jamie climbed aboard the bus. The entire bus ride she thought about what he was thinking as he was reading the letter. That letter full of love, but not the love that he probably expected to read, the letter went...3

Dearest Chris,4

I am completely sorry for how I had acted just the other day, and then for ignoring you yesterday at church. I have just been thinking a lot, and I have decided that I don't really love you as a lover, but as a brother. For so long you have been there, by my side. And all I can do is describe this feeling of love as a brotherly love, and nothing more. Although this type of love for sure is a tough bond between you and I, I just can't bring myself to date a man that I think of in a brotherly manner. I am so sorry that I miss led you into this relationship, but I truly cannot do this. I still have feelings toward Robert as well, I am just not ready for any kind of relationship what so ever. I know this whole note might be a bit confusing, and a little discouraging. But I love you none the less, and hope that we can remain friends.5

Chris read the letter in his car in the way to school, and then cried his sweet tears. His car swerved into many different lanes of traffic, fortunately he only received a few minor injuries. But sadly his heart was forever broken, never to be fixed, never would any one be able to mend it. When Jamie returned home that day, with Ashley by her side, she found messages left on her answering machine. Listening to the sorrow, and angst in the boy's voice brought tears to her eyes. Ashley then comforted Jamie's weak soul, and helped her through the night.8
