HANNAH is looking at some watch bands. A STORE CLERK comes up to her.3
STORE CLERK
May I help you with anything?4
HANNAH
Uh, no, I'm fine. Thanks. 5
Store clerk walks away. Hannah returns to looking at the watch bands, and picks one up. 6
HANNAH
(sighs)
If only I could afford this band! Then I would be able to get Sam a good Christmas present.
(puts the watch band back)
I guess I'll have to just get him another card again. I'll have to hurry quickly to get it in time for tonight.7
Hannah leaves the watch store and walks down the sidewalk, passing many brightly-colored and decorated stores. She is about to pass a haircut shop when she sees a BULLETIN SIGN. 8
HANNAH (V.O.)
What is this? "We'll buy your hair"? It sounds like a scam, but still, if there is money involved, I could buy that watch band...9
She walks into the haircut store quickly. The door CHIMES as it opens. A HAIR STYLIST looks up.10
HAIR STYLIST
What is it? We're closing for the day. Please come back the day after Christmas.11
HANNAH
Please, I want to sell my hair!12
HAIR STYLIST
We're not open...
(pauses)
But since you're here anyway, let me see it.13
Hannah tears off her large hat, and long, thick red hair cascades down. 14
HANNAH
Will this do?15
HAIR STYLIST
Ah, yes! That is beautiful hair!16
HANNAH
(quietly and regretfully)
Yes, it is.
How much would I get?17
HAIR STYLIST
Twenty dollars, no less!18
HANNAH
... Alright, I'll do it.19
Hannah walks to the chair the hair stylist is gesturing to and sits down. The hair stylist begins cutting. Hannah closes her eyes.20
HANNAH (V.O.)
I can't believe I'm actually doing this! ... But if this will give me the money to buy Sam's watch band, I'll do it.21
Thick red locks of hair FALL to the ground.22

INT. HANNAH AND SAM'S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - EVENING - CHRISTMAS DAY25
Hannah and Sam are kneeling beside a small Christmas tree, which is surrounded by two presents. Hannah's hat is back on her head, hiding her cropped hair.26
SAM
(picks up a beautifully-wrapped present)
Hannah, here's your present!
(gives the present to Hannah)27
HANNAH
(takes present)
Thank you so much! I love you!
(kisses Sam on cheek) 28
Hannah unwraps the present slowly, and is shocked to see a beautiful, decorative comb in a box. 29
HANNAH
Oh, Sam...30
SAM
(worriedly)
What is it? Do you not like it?31
HANNAH
No, it's wonderful! It's just that... No. I'll tell you afterwards.
(smiles)
Now open your present!32
Sam unwraps his present, and takes out the silver-laid watch band. 33
SAM
It's beautiful, darling, but...34
HANNAH
But what?35
SAM
I... I'm sorry to tell you this, but I sold my watch so I could get you your hair clip. 36
HANNAH
(wide eyes)
Really?

SAM

HANNAH
It's just that...
(takes off hat, Sam gasps at her short hair)
I sold my hair so I could get you the watch band!39
Both stare at each other, and then suddenly begin to LAUGH. 40
SAM
Is that so? Well, I guess we can always put these away until you grow your hair back and I can buy a new watch.
(chuckles)
I guess we had the same idea, huh? 41
HANNAH
