'Hey Jessica' someone called my name and I turned around and found my mum standing in my doorway. 1
'Yeah, mum?'2
'Phone call. It is Tobias'3
I got up and walked to my mum, and took the phone off her, the shut my door. 'Hey Tobias, what's up?'4
'Hey Jess, I was just wondering what the new plan is. Are you still planning on...' he trailed off.5
'Yeah, Tobias. I can't take it here anymore. Mum and I are just still fighting. I don't want to...'6
'What, Jess?' he sounded worried, and I knew that I shouldn't make him worry. He was my best friend, and even though I was holding a knife, I knew I could never tell him. 7
'Nothing Tobias. I just don't want to stay here any more, you know?' I told him this, even as I drew the knife across my skin on my arm. I hissed as the knife bit in. 8
'What was that?'9
'Insect bite, Tobias. Nothing serious.'10
'OK. So you're still going to tell your parents, tomorrow?'11
'Yeah. Then Sam is going to pick me up, and I'll probably pop round your place in the evening, if that is still OK?'12
'Anytime, Jess. You know that.'13
We said goodbye, and I hung up. I watched the blood well up to my skin, and I wondered how things had gotten so bad. I was only 18, and still in school, and yet I was going to leave home. I picked up the knife again, and placed it against my skin. This time it was just a shallow cut. I listened to my mother screaming at the T.V, and I knew that my father would be drinking soon, and realized that things had always been bad, at least with me. I knew what I had to do. I put the knife in the drawer, and then went to sleep. Tomorrow was another day, after all. 14
