The Legend of Bird: Chapter 2: The strangers

Birds crystal-blue teardrops plastered her fur to her face as they dropped onto her friends lifeless corpse. "Eclipse..." she thought. "Where are you now?"1

"Don't cry Bird," she heard her fathers deep voice say from behind her. She turned her head to see his lean firgure standing there, hazel eyes looking at her. Her father, Kiba, had the same color coat as her. Half of his right ear was missing from a fight from another dog and many scars covered his body. Bird looked down, trying to hold back her tears. Out of the corner of her ocean-colored eyes che could see her mother still shaking from her friends passing. Bird bit back her tears and Kiba leaned forward to lick her forehead.2

"Eclipse is not gone forever," he said. 3

"Kiba?" A males voice called. Bird looked up, ears perked, to see a stalky mastiff standing in the entranceway. He was dark brown and covered in scars, with a light tan underbelly. His name was Fang. "We need your help. The scents of strange dogs have appeared near our territory." Kiba touched his nose to Bird's. 4

"I'll be back soon," he promised, and turned to run off. He and Fang turned left and dissapeared. The crowd of forest dogs belonging to their pack also took off.5

"Go play outside," Moth choked out, turning to her daughter with a faint smile even though tears still poured down her face. "Try to get your mind off of Eclipse," she said.Bird looked at Eclipses body and back up to her mother. "I will burry her," Moth said. "You don't have to worry." But bird did. Eclipse had been her friend, and she was not sure what to do now. She turned and looked outside. 6

"Mother needs some alone time with her friend..." Bird thought. Without another word, she bounded out into the feilds of rolling grass and cherry blossom trees.7

"Wait, I'm coming with!" Bird skidded to a halt and looked behind her. She had totally forgotten about Whip who had been standing in the cave with them. She smiled and perked up a bit.8

"You are?" she laughed. He rolled his eyes and bounded past her, tail and ears streaming out behind him.Bird chased after him Happily when something made her stop. An icy talon of fear gripped her and she could feel her belly flip. She sniffed the air to confirm her terror... yes. The other dogs where here. Whip had halted a few yards infront of her. He looked back.9

"What is it?" he called.10

"Shh!" Bird hissed. Whip raised his head and sniffed the air. She could tell he smelt them too... If there where dogs here, Bird and Whip were no match for them. They where only a year old, still just puppys. What would happen if Moth lost her only offspring too?
