I walked into the hospital ward and there was your mother, just lying there under the sheets with the sweat forming on her face and her chest heaving as she gulped down the air. She looked like she had run a mile and only just got back, but she went right out the window when i saw you lying on your back.2

"Oh my God!" I sighed to you mother "Can i pick him up?" I asked.3

"Sure just be careful he's still fragile" She laughed4

I reached into the cot i tried not to shake as i held you up, your little body pressed against mine, your tiny heartbeat racing. I lay you gently across my lap and stroked your fine black hair looking into your scrunched up face. I thought you were about to cry and i thought my heart would break instead i saw your mouth open up and you smiled at me with your heart and soul.5

"He smiled at me" I managed to speak with the last air i had in my lungs6

"He isn't old enough to smile he's only 7 hours old" Your mother tried to tell me. I knew though i knew that you had smiled at me, and in that moment when you did i saw your life unfold. I watched you grow into a toddler, watched you take your first step and say your first word. Then blossom into a young teenager excelling at school and having your first kiss and your first car then you grew into an adult and i saw you at your job. I watched you make your first million and be broken by a girl, I was sitting at your wedding and your babies birth.7

As your baby was born i saw the scene i remembered from so long ago, when you were young and i held you close. 8

I reached into the cot i tried not to shake as i held your baby, his little body pressed against mine, his tiny heartbeat racing. I lay him gently across my lap and stroked his fine black hair looking into his scrunched up face. I thought he was about to cry and i thought my heart would break instead i saw his mouth open up and he smiled at me with his heart and soul. 9

And in that moment a saw a life unfold in A Babies Smile.10
