Damian sat there looking at the council. They were talking in whispers and wrote down notes furiously. They mainly wrote things down so that we didn't hear. My hand went to my stomach instinctively. Damian looked at me. When he saw my face he smiled gently. He was trying to tell me everything would be okay.1
I knew better. It wasn't. I didn't know much about vampire law but he was in serious trouble. I could see that from the way the council was talking about everything. All of the discussions were in hushed tones. They tried not to get even to a whisper. Finally, the group straightened. The head looked at Damian.2
"Damian Adams. We find you guilty with the charge of impregnating a female human by seduction. Such charges take the consequence of either extermination of the half breed baby or exile. We are fully against the extermination while the baby is inside of the mother. Therefore the only thing we can give you is exile from the coven," the head said in a strong voice.3
Amelia gasped and clutched Angela's hand. Mickey looked furious. Dominic was glaring at the head. Xavier let a low hiss escape. Laura and Drea were crying and Ashton and Valdimir were staring with open mouths at Victor. I looked at Victor too. It was pointless though. He couldn't change anything. He was one of the fifteen council members. His vote only counted as one. He'd have to convince at least seven other members for him to out vote the conviction.4
"Victor! Can't you do anything?" Amelia asked.5
Victor glared at her and shook his head slightly. The other council members were looking at her with a questioning look. I clutch my stomach. That's when a thought hit me. There was one thing I could do.6
"Wait!" I shouted standing. Damian's eyes glared at me harshly and coldly. Normally that would've shut me up but it didn't. "You can't-"7
"Miss Sky, please do not interrupt. This hearing is not on you right now. We have come to a decision. The only way I can see a way out for him is if you give up your child right now. I highly doubt you're about to do that," he snapped.8
My hand clenched on my stomach and he noticed. "I thought so," he sneered and looked at the paper. "So, Mr. Adams, you are to leave later tonight. We will send you out tonight on a plane. There are some lands available in Alaska. Or if you want we can send you to France," he continued.9
I felt a sharp pain rip through my chest. I couldn't let him go. But there was nothing that I could do at that time. They had come a decision. Nothing could change that. The only thing that could change it is if I killed the baby. I couldn't do that. Damian damn well knew that. That's why he was taking it easily. The only thing I could do to keep him with his family was if I left.10
Wait! How fucking stupid was I? That's all I had to do. I'd leave and they'd be fine. I could send the baby back to him when it was old enough. He could train the baby and teach it the ways to live. Why didn't I see that before?11
"Wait!" I jumped up. "I have a proposal."12
The council looked at me. Damian stared at me with a suspicious glare. I ignored him. Victor had terror showing in his eyes. Other than that he had nothing but a blank look. I could feel the others tense around me waiting to see what'd I do. that didn't matter. Keeping Damian's family together did. Keeping Damian with his coven. That's what mattered. He always put me first. This time I had to put him first. Well, I didn't have to but I wanted to. Life was about compromising and meeting halfway. Damian already did his part now it was my turn to do that.13
"What?" A brown haired council member asked.14
"I'll leave," I said clearly.15
"No!" Damian shouted. 16
I glared at him and climbed over the bar separating me from the floor in front of the council. Damian shot out of his chair. He was in front of me in a second. "What the hell are you doing?"17
I stared at him. "You always put me first. It's my turn to do what I can for you."18
He stared at me. "Absolutely not! I refuse to let you do that. There is no way in hell that you can get me to change my mind. I'm not moving from this-"19
"Go sit down," I said rolling my eyes. Suddenly he was back in his chair glaring at me.20
"Miss Sky what is your proposal?" The member with long blond hair asked patiently.21
"Can I give you my side of the story and then give you my suggestion?" I asked. More like begged. There was no way I was going to let them decide something without both sides of the story. They forgot that I was the one who was pregnant. Damian wasn't the only one who acted irresponsibly. It was my fault just as much as it was his, maybe even more.22
A dark haired council member looked at the council then me. "I see no problem with that."23
The head nodded. "I agree. Alright Miss Sky. Give us the story and then you're proposal."24
I took a deep breath. Damian shook his head slightly. He was trying to get me not to say anything. He wanted to take the punishment so that I didn't get it. That was too damn bad. It wasn't his fault completely. I did the same thing he did. There was no way I was going to let him take the whole blame. If he was going to take a punishment so was I.25
"The night of the conception Damian told me we didn't have to. He gave me plenty of chances to get away. He wasn't seducing me. When I said I wanted to he kept asking to make sure I didn't suddenly change my mind. I told him to stop asking and a couple times he pulled away to stop. I refused to stop though. I was too far in to stop. He finally gave up and we went on. The next morning again it happened. I kept asking him and pestering him. He gave into me. He didn't back down because he didn't want me upset. Every single time I asked he gave in. It wasn't his fault. It was-"26
"Your fault," the brown haired member finished for me.27
I swallowed and nodded. "Yes. I asked him and kept getting at him to do it." I looked at them. Damian had his head in his hands. He glanced at me. His eye was white.28
"What is your proposal?" The head asked. "Choose carefully. You can propose something but we have the last say. From the way you described everything you are the one who deserves the punishment. The only problem is, he gave in. He was the one who impregnated you. Whether it was by will or seduction it still is an offense that has to be dealt with. However, we still want to know what your proposal is."29
I took a deep breath. I had to be careful. Once it was out I could never take it back. I had to make sure it was the right thing. It was and I knew it but there was one thing I didn't think about. How would Damian react to it? He did have a say in this. He wanted to make sure I was okay. He knew if he left his parents would do everything in their power to make sure I was okay. That didn't have to happen though. He deserved to be with his family. It wouldn't be hard for me to find a new place. I could find a place and have the baby. The media could be held off with Rick's help. He wouldn't question anything. Crystal and dad would help too. Damian needed to be with his family. They needed him just as much as he needed them. I didn't belong in his family. They would just have me as a burden, which wasn't my place.30
"I'm willing to leave. I'll leave instead. When the baby's born I'll send it back so that Damian can raise him and show him everything. I have places I can go and it would be more appropriate. He has a family here. I don't. It's better that I go." I looked at all of them. Victor was staring at me. His eyes were soft and gentle. 31
Damian was the first to speak. "No! It was my fault. I acted irresponsibly. It was my doing that got her pregnant. She can't be responsible for that. It was all me!" He shouted frantically.32
The head looked up and down the row. After a second he pulled out a pen again. "Now that this side of the story has come out we need to change the punishment and discuss who will receive it." They all got up and filed out of the room. The door closed with a loud thud. I breathed out and tried to control my heart pounding. There was a low growl. I looked up and saw Damian stnading and staring at me. His eye was black. His hair covered the other half. I was thankful at that point for that style. If I could only see half of his face then he wasn't too scary. Don't get me wrong he was scary but it wasn't as bad when I couldn't see his full face.33
He crossed his arms over his chest. the black shirt clung to his body showing his muscles. He walked over to me. His face was furious. I moved away slightly but his hand shot out to grab me. "What the hell was that?" He demanded pulling me close to him.34
I stared at him. That was the only moment I was truly afraid that he'd rip out my throat. He looked like he would. His hand was on my wrist pulling me to him. I tried to pull away. My arm twisted but it couldn't get out of his grip.35
"Answer me!" Damian shouted. I covered my ears.36
"Volume, dear," I muttered looking away.37
"Stop fucking around! What was that?"38
I cringed and looked him in the eye. He was tense and pissed. Not a good combo. "I did what I thought was right."39
"What the hell?" He was still glaring at me.40
"Look, you've been doing everything to make sure I'm okay. You're the one that's giving. I haven't given anything. This is better than you leaving. You can't leave your family. They need you and you need them," I explained calmly.41
"I need you here more than I need to be here. You have to stay here. It's the only chance you'll survive."42
"No it isn't." Why couldn't he see that?43
"How are you figuring this? Aya, it's the best way for you to deliver and raise the baby. If it wants to see me it can catch a flight. Or I'll go near enough for you to be with it and watch."44
"That's not a problem. I was going to give it to you so you could raise it the way you know best. I can't raise it. I can't be with your family. Only you can be with them." Why couldn't he see I didn't belong in his family?45
"I don't get it. Why are you doing this? I'm trying to give you a chance. Why are you refusing it?" He demanded staring at me with confusion.46
"Because I don't BELONG in YOUR family," I shouted. "I'm not a vampire. I don't know this stuff. I didn't know about the baby being an offense that would get you exiled from the coven. I don't belong with them. YOU do. YOU are the one who needs to stay. I don't know how to do everything. I know how to have a baby. I can do that. After that I can't do anything. You belong here with your family so you can raise the baby. You can teach it wrong and right. I can't do that at all. You always take the blame. You always make sure I'm okay. This time is different. We're talking about your family. I can't take you away from them." I pulled my hand from his slacked grip.47
Damian opened his mouth but there was a snarl and hissing. The door opened and Victor walked in. His face showed he was pissed. He slammed the door and went to his chair. Amelia rose and went to his side. She took his hand he looked at her. "What is it?" She asked.48
"They're coming to a decision."49
"What's it coming to so far?" Dominic asked leaning forward while keeping an arm around a shaking Mickey.50
"They thought about Aya's proposal. They also considered the story. Both versions. They're now voting. They want to have Ayanna sent off and Damain will have a different punishment. I don't know what they were thinking for a punishment. I do know they're going to send Ayanna away," Victor growled.51
"They can't do that!" Xavier jumped up.52
"Hon, they can do anything," Laura said putting her hand on his arm.53
"Victor, can't you do something?" Drea asked. Angela looked at him with hopeful eyes.54
He shook his head. "I'm just one person. I only had two others back me up. After that they were talking about the baby. They're discussing that too. They're thinking of having the baby taken away from her when it's born. They'll send it to us and we'd have to raise it and take responsibility for it." He suddenly looked as old as he was. "After that they're going to erase her memory. She won't remember anything and she'll be able to go back to a normal life before she met us."55
"Why are they erasing her memory?" Ashton asked quietly at the same time that Angela said, "It doesn't make sense."56
"Because she's not a vampire. They think she doesn't belong here," Victor buried his face in his hands. I could only see his black hair.57
Damian was completely tense. I looked at him. His face was in horror and pain. His eyes were flashing from black to white; Anger and fear. Eventually they settled on gray. He looked and saw I was watching. I pursed my lips and kept my eyes on his. He grabbed me and pulled me into a hug. His head buried into my head. I wrapped my arms around my stomach. He was shaking slightly. When he pulled away he pulled me to the chair. He sat me down and went on his knees in front of me.58
"Why didn't you just keep your mouth shut? If they sent me into exile I'd be able to survive. You can't," he took my hands.59
"I can too. Besides, your rightful place is here. With your family. I don't know anything about any of this. So you're the better choice to keep here." I put my hand on his face.60
"Why can't you ever be easy to deal with?"61
"Because I'm too stubborn to give in. It should remind you of someone," I said looking at him pointedly.62
He rolled his eyes. "I swear your stubborn ass is going to be the death of you," he muttered.63
"Enough of my death," I said. "You belong here. I'll take whatever they give me. It's not worth putting your this burden on your family."64
Damian looked away. Before anyone could react to what I said the door opened. Again. The council marched in and took their seats. Amelia moved behind the rail and Dominic held her hand. Mickey was clinging to his other arm. Drea was so still she looked like a statue. Xavier was glaring at the council and Laura looked like she was about to bite her lip off. Angela had stopped breathing all together. Damian had my hand in a tight grip. I wiggled it so he remembered that he was holding it. He let go and stood back. I stood up and looked at the council. They were shifting papers. The head finally looked up. Here it goes.65
"Ayanna Sky, the council finds you guilty. We have decided you're the one who is mostly responsible. You seduced a vampire and forced him to have sexual intercourse with you-"66
"She didn't forced me!" Damian cut him off harshly.67
The head went on like no one spoke. "Your punishment is exile from this land. You are to go somewhere that can be easy to get into for us. We will send someone to check on you every month. When you give birth you will nurse the baby until it can be away from you. Once that's done you will give up the baby and lose your memory. I will erase all memories of ever seeing us. You will not remember anything or anyone," he said glancing at his papers. "Furthermore, Damian will not be allowed to see-"68
"What the hell will that do?" Damian shouted. I pulled his arm to restrain him. He flung his arm out of my hand and charged up to the council. "Why?"69
"That is your punishment. You will not be able to see her. When she gives up the baby you will take care of it. Hopefully taking care of a half-breed will make you more responsible. She will leave the day after tomorrow. That will be the last time you will ever see her." The head put his papers down.70
"No! I refuse to. If you exile her I'll leave too. I HAVE to be there when she gives birth. I have to be there for her pregnancy. I can't leave her by herself!" Damian shouted.71
"There are no other options. I can only grant you visitation rights. Even then those are limited." He started to get up.72
"Every two weeks," Damian shot out.73
The head looked at him. "Once every two months."74
"Once every three weeks."75
The head scowled. He was about to talk but the brown haired member spoke first. "I think we can allow that. I actually think that he should visit once a week. He is the father and deserves that right. It's not too much."76
"The point of this was to punish them. They broke laws. If we give them what they want what will they learn?" The head shouted.77
"They'll be getting their punishment. We all know that but the fact is he's the father. She's human. She needs him. If we want the baby to be safe so they can train it, then we need to let him with her," the brown haired member said. I could have kissed him! He was totally on the top of my friend list. 78
The head glared. He opened his mouth but the brown haired spoke first. "All those in favor of granting his request for every two weeks raise your hand."79
I watched as Victor instantly put his hand up. The whole council did. Except the head. He snarled and turned away. "Fine! He can visit every two weeks!" His hand hit the table and he walked out of the room. "She leaves tomorrow." He slammed the door.80
The brown haired member sighed. "Miss Sky, would you please follow me? I need to talk with you about the things that will happen during the rest of your pregnancy and after." He stood and walked around the table. The others were reading things on papers. 81
He walked to the door behind me. I turned and walked to him. Damian was behind me and looked down at me. I put my hand on his chest. "It's better like this," I whispered.82
He glared at me. "No it's not."83
I shook my head and went to the council member. He held the door and followed me. Damian was right. It wasn't better like this; for me. For him and his family it was the best. His family would be able to stick together. They'd take care of the baby and everything to protect it. They'd never forget me. In a way I would be leaving a part of me with them. I'd forget them and go on with my life and eventually die. That's how it should be. From the beginning it was supposed to be like that. I didn't belong in the vampire world. I shouldn't even know about it. If I hadn't I'd be living a normal life. 84
Why do I always mess things up?
