-Tonight I'm so alone 1

Little Ryo shivered on the ground, snowflakes falling on his black hair. He pulled his patched blanket even tighter around his body, feeling a boney hand touch his shoulder.2

-This sorrow takes a hold 3

He held his breath and turned his head around, slowly letting his breath slip away.4

-Don't leave me here so cold 5

“W-w-who are you?”6

The man brushed Ryo’s hair to the side with his pale hands, “I am Orochimaru…”7

“O-o-orochimaru?” Ryo said quivering.8

“Yes, my son.” Orochimaru said, while his tongue licked his lips. “Come with me and I shall make you powerful!”9

Ryo bit his lip, “Powerful?” he thought staring into Orochimaru’s snake-like eyes. “If I loved my parents so much… I should have protected them…from death.” 10

Orochimaru turned to walk down the street moving his hand up into the air, “Follow me…”11

Ryo picked himself up and dashed to the side of Orochimaru, a smile on his lonely face, someone to love him.12

-Never want to be so cold 13

Ryo held his stance, although a kunai was held against his neck.14

“Come on kid…” The rogue ninja spoke into his ear, her breath cold. “Let’s not let you die here…” She pulled the kunai closer. “Your time is up.”15

Ryo reached into his weapon holder and withdrew a poisonous needle, injecting it in the ninja.16

“Nnnn…” She fell to her knees, blood bleeding through her shirt. “Orochimaru taught you well…” She made a faint smile and closed her eyes. “Just to keep you in his plan…” She looked up at him, “to destroy y-” Her voice cracked, she lay on the ground and died.17

Orochimaru appeared behind a tree, walking to Ryo. “Very good, Ryo.” He licked his lips. “Very good…” He lifted his head toward the sky and lifted his hand in a cup shape, “but not good enough… I need to make you stronger… more powerful…” He looked at Ryo’s shoulder. “Yesssss…” He stretched out his neck, “This won’t hurt a bit…” Orochimaru sank his fangs into Ryo’s flesh, a black mark appeared… a curse mark. 20

Ryo cried out in pain, holding his shoulder. “W-w-w-why Orochimaru?”21

He snickered, “I wanted to make you powerful didn’t I? And so I did.” He disappeared from Ryo… lonely Ryo.22

-I've waited all this time, 23

-I've wasted so much time 24

Ryo dashed through the trees holding kunai in both of his hands. Leaves smacked his face, like whips, but he still did not feel the pain. Power… That was his goal. Power. All he could think about, was power. 25

Ryo walked along the bank of a river and cupped his hands and drank. He heard a strange voice and a vision flooded his mind. 44

“MOM!” Small Ryo shouted at the top of his lungs. “MOM WHERE ARE YOU?” He dropped everything and sat on the floor. A tear began to form in his eyes, as his mother came in the room.46

“What is it Ryo?” She picked him up and wiped the tears away with her gentle touch.47

“Do you love me?”48

His mom’s mouth stayed open for a moment, then she closed it, “Why would you ask such a silly question?” She smiled, “Of course I love you.”49

“Ok…” He blushed laying his head on his mother’s shoulder, feeling his mother’s touch for the last time.50

The voice reminded of him, of someone he once loved, once had within his reach, within his touch. Love.54

He threw his kunai at the tree, getting this “love” out of his mind and saw a young woman walk out from behind his target. 57

She fell to the ground, dropping her basket of flowers. “I-I-I-I’m so sorry…” 58

Ryo walked toward her and asked, “What is love?”59

She replied to him lowering her head, “Love… An affectionate feeling for someone… or something.” She looked at him, “Why did you want to know?”60

He was gone.61

He hid in the tree away from the kind woman. “All I wanted was someone to love me…” He stared at her and reached for a kunai, his anger overriding his thoughts as he flung it at her. “All… I wanted…” He tried to hold back the tears, “Is love.”63
