Fairy Cavern

Fairy Cavern1

I walked through an orchard, fallen apples, red and cidery on the ground, crossed through a gate, and into the woods beyond.2

A chiming rang in the distance. A sudden glimmer caught my eye. I spun around to see a fairy smiling and sitting in a tree.3

The fairy giggled and flew off. I was lost, again. I kicked the dirt at my feet, and continued.4

The sky was turning a fuchsia-orange, meaning the sun was setting. After night fell, I’d have to beware the animals lurking in the darkness.5

I sensed something a few meters away so I flung myself backwards. An arrow flew in front of my face and dug into a nearby tree.6

“Close call,” I said to myself. I glanced where the arrow had come from. There was a hidden person there. I called out as they began turning away. “Wait, I need help!” I screamed as I ran through the bushes and trees before grabbing the person’s shoulder blade. They turned around and seemed surprised.7

“Brendan?” the figure said in a muffled voice, due to the mask covering their face. The person pulled their mask off and let their hair down. It was Mari Bappe, one of the people that was with me in the small village near the woods, before we split up and got lost.8

“Mari!” I said, happily. I was glad I wouldn’t be alone when night fell, which would be very soon.9

The sun was three-fourths of the way hidden by land and that meant, night would come soon, and that meant there would be little light.10

More sparkles could be seen. I went where the sparkles had come from and there was the same little fairy as before.11

I tried to speak to her but she giggled and flew off, leaving a trail of more yellow sparkles.12

Mari spoke, “We still need to find Drayton, Schuyler, Nila, and Ellen. Then we’ll have everyone.”13

“Yeah, but that’ll have to wait. We don’t have enough time to get out before they shut the gates so we should set up camp.” I said. Mari nodded and pointed to somewhere a few paces away.14

I took the bag from beneath my cloak and opened it. It was magically enchanted so it could hold anything it wanted. I pulled out a tent and some food.15

Mari had carried her stuff in a normal bag so we both began setting up. Then we sat on two tree stumps protruding from the ground.16

I asked her if she was hungry and she said, “Yeah, a little.” I round rocks up in a circle, with some sticks in the middle.17

Due to being a mage, or magic user, I made a flame flicker in the sticks, and a fire started. It slowly grew.18

Neither one of us spoke throughout dinner. The next time I heard a voice was around 10: 30 p.m. when Mari said, “Good night, I’m going to bed.” The fire was burning low so I went to my tent and tried to fall asleep.19

As soon as Sun was up, it began beating down on my tent. I emerged through the doorway facing south.20

There was the fairy again, giggling and flying around. I smiled and, for once, she didn’t fly off.21

There must’ve been a noise far off that I couldn’t hear because the fairy jolted and zoomed away, leaving only a trail of sparkles.22

I sat down on a stump and waited. After a few minutes, a noise came from the bushes. I spun around and got ready to attack.23

The person that emerged from the bushes was Schuyler. I almost attacked him but then stopped myself. “Whoa! Jeez almost kill me.” Schuyler said sarcastically.24

I rolled my eyes and, because he sounded hungry, threw him some of the leftovers from the last night.25

It hit him in the face and clung on. He pulled it off. “Thanks,” he said. There was stirring in Mari’s tent, so I figured she must’ve awakened.26

After Mari woke up, the three of us ate some breakfast and got ready to look for the other.27

Schuyler was a warrior so he attacked with mostly swords, daggers, etc; He was wearing a little armor but not so much because he didn’t want to be slow.28

The six of us were searching for the ‘Emerald of Elena.’ It was one of the gems of the Goddess Gems. Elena was the ruler of the Earth-realm, which is were we were. We had split up to find it, but now we needed to get everyone together.29

Each of us specialized in a certain fighting category. We were all different but when we were together, we could destroy almost anything.30

As we continued walking, I began thinking of the fairy. She kept appearing and disappearing. Was she following me?31

We stopped to rest and then I could smell smoke and burning wood. “Guys, do you smell that?”32

“Smell what?” Mari asked.33

“Are you talking about the smoke?” Schuyler asked.34

“Yeah, “ I replied.35

“Oh, that.” Mari concluded.36

The three of us drifted toward the area where the smoke was coming from. When we passed through the brush we came upon a wide-open space with a dead fire and three tents.37

Drayton came out from one of the tents and I knew, at once, we had found the others.38

We sat down around the fire, but no one spoke. There was a slight breeze as a leaf fell to the ground.39

I glanced at every location around the camp when I noticed a salty smell in the air. “Are you guys set up by the ocean?” I asked.40

“I don’t know.” Drayton said. I got up and walked toward the smell. As I made my way through the brush, my feet hit golden sand.41

I walked forward and felt the warm ocean breeze run through my body. In the distance, I saw a small castle. It was covered in vines and was made of brown stone, Elena’s Earth Haven, as it was known.42

The others must’ve noticed too because Drayton, went to go get Nila and Ellen. They emerged from the brush a few minutes later.43

Elena’s castle was on an island so we needed to get there somehow. Just as we were about to give up, the fairy appeared out of nowhere.44

She flew to me and whispered in my ear, “My name is Cara, which means, well, nothing. I am one of Elena’s helpers. I aide people to her castle.” She flew off my shoulder, spun around, and cast a spell. The spell gave us rafts.45

We swam to the rafts and slowly made our way to Elena’s Island. Cara followed us.46

When we reached there, we slowly made our way to the door. Schuyler opened it and we went in. He almost fell through a hole in the floor.47

“Wow! Some castle.” Drayton said.48

“It must be some ruins or something.” Nila said.49

“Hey! You tricked us!” I said to Cara.50

“Ha Ha! Now you get to face the wrath of Elena’s guardian, um, um, what’s his name again?” She paused. “Oh Yeah! Willy!”51

She flicked her wand and all the torches in the room lit up, revealing a green and brown dragon on the far wall. Above it was the Emerald of Elena.52

“You guys fight it and I’ll get the gem!” I said. They nodded. I jumped and grabbed a hold of a railing sticking out of the wall.53

As I looked back, I saw that my friends were making quick mincemeat of the dragon. I kept climbing until I heard a shriek. The dragon had been slain.54

I heard a cranking of gears and then there was a set of stairs leading to the gem. I jumped down and walked up with my friends. Cara had disappeared.55

We reached the top of the steps and, sitting on a pedestal, was the Emerald of Elena.56

“On the count of 3!” I said.57

“1.” Schuyler said.58

“2.” Mari counted.59

“3!” Drayton screamed as we grabbed the emerald. As we pulled it off, the floor fell from beneath us and we fell into a plunging darkness. I hit the ground with a thud.60
