Leaving

Her heart pounded like the beating of wild horse hooves.  Her ears caught the sound of the windshield whippers as they pitched the water from her view.  Streaks of mascara drew lines on her face.  Shades of brown entwined themselves in the black, tiny rivers.  The manicured hand clutched the Escalade's wheel with so much force that the tan skin was white.  Striking green eyes glance into the blackness before her.  Right now her world consisted of pavement, stripes, headlights, and Jason.  Her rear view mirror gave her the sight of her son.  That tidy, brown hair that refused to grow no other way but forward.  God, he looked just like his father. Tears of sadness once again ran down her face and she hoped her sobs wouldn't wake her sleeping child.  Everyone had told her not to go back, they said if he could do it once, then he could do it again. With all her strength she ignored them. This time, however, she wouldn't go back.  This time she would run far from her country home. 1

'Oh, sweetie, what have I done to you?' She thinks.  His intense eyes are hidden from view, identical copies of his fathers.  He was tucked safe from the real world, safe in his world of dreams. She glanced at the small silver ring that sat on the dash before her.  It glistened just like it had the day he slipped it onto her ring finger.  That wretched, awful, twisting feeling struck her body and the image of her man and that woman tore at her heart like vultures.  Just then her cell rang and she picked it up with a shaky hand.  The screen flashed his name and she turned it off then threw it into the passenger seat.  She knew that she was not dreaming, she knew this was reality, but it all just seemed so screwed up and unreal.2

"How could you!" The scene replayed itself. "You son of a bitch! After everything, after all the promises, the "I'm sorrys", you just couldn't help yourself, huh?" Her voice rang throughout the house.3

"I'm sorry, I am, I.....got caught up in the moment and the guys were..." Her heart sank into her stomach, of course, it was always their fault.4

"Oh, of course, because the guys said...."5

"Shut up okay?  I'm sorry what can I do? It happened."  It shocked her how nonchalant he was being about the situation.6

"Your right, it did, but now your going to lose." Her whole body shook with fear and anxiety, but she knew she had to go through with it.7

"Lose?" He replied. "What do you mean?"8

"I'm taking MY son and leaving." The intensity of the words didn't grip him.9

"For tonight?" He replied.10

"No, forever."11

Realization gripped him quickly and for a minute the only nose was the rain against the house. Then that manly look overcame him and she knew he would try to outsmart her.12

"You can't do that! He's mine, too." She just gave him a smirk. By now he was in her face, she was scared, but still on control of herself.13

"Watch me." She said with the same determination as he had. So, he stood the whole time watching her pack 1 bag for herself and 2 for her companion.  He said nothing, did nothing to stop her, he just stood by and watched as she'd lifted the sleeping baby from his bed, carried him down the stairs, and walked out the door. Her choice had broke her heart as she walked away, but it really hurt now. She felt terrible for ripping away his father, but he'd left her no choice. Where she was heading for was a mystery to her. Her parents house lay 95 miles away, but he would try to contact her there. She wanted nothing to do with him, didn't want to hear his voice or know of his presence. That was impossible, however, due to the fact that every time she would look into, Jason's, eyes she would see him, feel him, and enjoy him. That, however, was a fate she was willing to accept.  So, as she was left with nowhere else to go she swung off at the "Terrance" exit, leaving her life with him behind.14
