Dagon X-13 Chapter 1

Juli climbed slowly and carefully down the rocks above the beach. This was her favorite spot in the entire town, the sound of the ocean helped to clear her head.1

Juli worked as a freelance bounty hunter, hunting some of the most dangerous people in Krol. As profitable a job as this was, it was very stressful, so every once in a while she escaped to the beachfront to get away from everything.2

As Juli sat in her spot, clearing her head, she noticed something odd. Lying on the beach, face up, was a man. He has long, straight, jet black hair, but his skin...his skin was...odd to say the least. It seemed to change from porcelain white to quite dark, as though something was changing her perception of the man all the while looking at him.3

He wore no shirt and brown baggy pants that hung off his legs. He was handsome, but his skin unnerved Juli. She stared for quite a while to see if her eyes could settle on a single shade.4

Eventually she decided to attempt to talk to the man. She walked over to him, kneeled down, and tapped his shoulder. Suddenly the man's arm shot out and grabbed Juli's wrist. His eyes shot open, revealing perfect, beautiful eyes. They were bright red and seemed not to reflect enough light to be real. They caught her attention as he said, "What do you want?"5

"I..." Juli started to say, but he shook his head and let go of her wrist.6

"I really don't care, this is a public beach," he said. He laid his head back on the sand, and sighed. Juli stared at him a moment longer, for she was fascinated by him.7

"Why...does your skin change color?" she asked him. He opened his eyes and looked quizzically at her. He pushed his body up into a sitting position and sighed again.8

"I can't tell you, I'm sorry," he said. His eyes looked pained, as if it hurt to keep this feat a secret. He decided to change the subject.9

"So, what do you do for a living?" he asked, shoving the previous Q&A out of his head. Juli pondered how best to answer this question. She was well known to most people, but apparently this man hadn't heard of her.10

"I'm a bounty hunter," She said, simply, "In fact, I'm one of the best, if I do say so myself." Was boasting necessary? she thought. He seemed to enjoy it though. He laughed and said, "Me too..."11

Another bounty hunter? Juli thought. The man laughed again, probably because of the look on her face.12

"Don't worry, I don't hunt the same kind of people..." he said, "I won't disturb you."13

The man looked up at the sun and said "Ah, I've got to go now."14

"Okay," Juli said. The man got up and started to walk away, "Wait!" Juli yelled after him. He turned around and looked expectantly at her.15

"What is your name?" She asked. He smiled and said "Lotre." He turned and walked away...
