Introduction3

In this story I will portray the life of four people. Two girls and two boys by the names of Elisabeth smith, Henry Jenkins, Klaya Moore, Joshua Heart. These are their struggles through finding their powers and their observations of life.4

Chapter 1 Elisabeth5

“No, do not call me Elisabeth it is so very plain my new name is…is uh ummm yes I’ve got it my new name is fire spirit” Elisabeth uh that is to say “fire spirit” was having another weekend conversation with a total complete stranger. She likes to give a little extra something to a stranger every day, she likes to think it’s somewhat paying it foreword. “Umm miss I don’t know who you are but I'm trying to cook dinner and you are wasting my time with your fribbless nonsense” said a feminine voice from the end of her receiver. “Sorry, call you back later” Elisabeth (fire spirit) said cheerfully into the phone hearing a distant “please don’t” before she let the phone click on the receiver. Elisabeth has fiery red hair and light very light brown skin in fact most people just call her complexion yellow, which really disturbs her. She’s what you would call mulatto6

Her father had fiery red hair like her but he was long gone before she was even born for all she knew he could be dead (ehem) but that’s not the point. Her mother had dark brown skin and light brown eyes she had burgundy red hair, which also contributed to the strange color of her’s. Her family did not believe in perming their hair in fact both of their hair were in plaits a large amount of small plaits called microbes. Have you ever heard of the saying a person’s room describes the person, well true as that statement is Elisabeth’s room was made purely of warm browns and exquisite whites and peaches ( not her decision but her mother’s). Her room consisted of a small brown table and chair with a white and elegantly designed pillow sewn onto the seat, a dark brown canopy bed with white sheets , pillows, blankets, comforters, and stuffed animals. She also had a hard wood floor (dark brown wood) with a circular rather giant white rug right in the middle. On one wall of her room stood her dresser and mirror both in dark wood and her desk where most of her poetry was written. Elisabeth was laid out on her bed being drowned in her immansive comforter. 7

Arghh she cried in frustration giving up to the heavy blanket and slowly slipping off the bed’s edge. Her mother passed by her open room’s door heard a yel;p and a thump and rolled her eyes and shook her head putting down her basket of neatly folded yellow towels she stepped into the room in search of her senile thirteen year old daughter. “Elisabeth” her mother called out poking the lump of linen sitting by the bed with her foot. ” I'm in here” came the muffled response from the comforter that was her daughter. Picking up a fold of the blanket and tugging on it caused the whole blanket to come loose and Elisabeth tumbled out form it smiling at her handiwork Ms.Smith walked out of the room. Dazed Elisabeth sat up and blinked “This room is trying to kill me” she muttered standing up and dusting off her black slacks and blouse. She walked to her dresser and rummaged through her drawers till she found some jeans a plain white t-shirt and a rubber band. changing as quickly as possible she opened her window and jumped out ( don’t worry her room is on the first floor). Running as fast as she could away from the dreamlike Victorian that she lived in she reached their paddock which held their horses ginger, toffee, and thunder ( the first two named after their color the last well from past experiences lets just say it’s not cause he’s fast but because he passes GA.. well anyway back to the story).”Morning Ginger, toffee thunder she said curtsying for them. She went and got their oats and fed them. Taking out Ginger and her stool, she climbed up on her she wasn’t quite the tallest person being only 5’2”. She trotted ginger away from her house and slowly to the path that went out to the rode her best friend, Joshua Heart lived on. Joshua was a tall but not lanky boy he had dark chestnut colored skin and hair that reached his back that he wore in a plat. His mother was Native American, his father was African American he looked mostly like his mother except most of his facial features were of a black man like his nose, and lips his eyes were a dark brown like his hair. He was a handsome boy but she never thought of him in that way he was more of a brother than a boyfriend and she thought the feeling was mutual.8

Chapter 2 9

Joshua woke up to the smell of food good food in the kitchen uh oh something must be wrong he thought as he found his towel under his bed and took out some jeans and a random shirt from his closet (it was black). He headed for the bathroom when he heard yelling “you’re what “ screamed his mother from in the kitchen “ pregnant mother I'm going to have a baby” was the cool and calm and almost nonchalant if it weren’t for the slight quiver to her voice reply of his older sister Martha. She’s what he felt anger build up inside of him he ran down stairs and skidded to a halt in front of the kitchen “you’re what” he yelled at his eighteen year old sister.” This is none of your business” she and his mother snapped in unison. “okay then, mom I’ll be in the shower he said” he had the strangest feeling he was being ignored as his mother turned as if not even acknowledging him and glared at her daughter. “How could you?” his mother asked her voice quavering her eyes touched by tears. “I'm my own woman and I loved him and I .I made a big mistake and I’m sorry please forgive me mother please she said tears flowing freely. Turning around he stepped gently back up the steps rounding the corner and slipping into the bathroom.  After the door was securely closed he leaned back onto the door and let the information sink in and after a while he decided that he would talk this out with Elisabeth. He got into the shower, turned the water on hot, and just stood there until he realized he should be bathing. After he was done he changed and went back into his room and climbed slowly down the rope he put outside of his window in case of a fire in second grade. He started walking up the path when the marvel that is Elisabeth galloped toward him on her horse toffee he whistled and Firenze his black stallion galloped up the path toward him he jumped up and climbed on him and rode out to meet her. After they met they started to slowly trot down the path toward the lake. Noticing the silence from his usually talkative friend he asked “what?” “so how’d she take it ?” asked Elisabeth “ how did who take what he asked innocently”? “Don’t play how your mother took Martha being pregnant” 10

Badly and how did you know he asked shocked? “Oh she told me already,” she said looking a bit guilty. “Did she tell you or did you just know,” he asked a suspicious look cast toward his friend. I cannot help knowing she said defensively. Yeah as much as I can help talking to animals, he responded more to himself than anyone. Him and Elisabeth a long time ago when they were eight were riding home from the lake, found a very strange looking book. Inside the old raggedy molding book was written, “Humans are one of the only animals that do not use their sixth sense, because they do not know how”. He looked at Elisabeth and she said, “Well I want to know” how me too he said with a nod. Looking further into the book, they found a completely three pages on what to do to become more than a regular human. One of them said put an herbal tea in you bath and meditate for fifteen minutes straight, (that’s the one that Elisabeth chose). Another of them said if you live near animals and have a lot of animals sit near where they stay and meditate for at least fifteen minutes but during this meditation try your hardest to communicate with the animals. “ you want to do this” Elisabeth asked looking at him anxiously “yea, I do in fact I'm going to try it right now, see ya later” he called as he galloped toward his house leaving the book with her. When he got near his house, he stopped and sat down and crossed his legs and thought about animals squirrels, sheep, goats, deer, elk, dogs, cats, bears, all the animals he could think of. Then he tried to communicate with them squirrel can you hear me he thought *I am Joshua the one with the long black hair, if you can hear me come and sit in my lap* he waited and waited until finally a squirrel was sitting in his lap.    11
