Phoenix- "Yet still like dust, I rise"

Well if you know what a phoenix is, you might already understand the quote. But if you don't A phoenix is a mythical bird with incredible talents. When harmed or killed, a phoenix (historically female, might i add,) is reborn from its own ashes. It is from a poem by Maya Angelou call "I rise". 1

Anyway ther are a couple reasons I connect with the phoenix. 2

1) The phoenix is a beautiful creature and is universal. Though it goes by many different names, the image and theory of the bird itself, is translated in many different languages and across cultures. those who know of me at least, know that i have a lot of different nationalities flowing through my veins. Picture this. European type hair that curls at the ends, a wide Ethiopian nose, a short neck like the Iroquois, and the short stocky figure of and Indian. Sounds bad, but I came out pretty cute, if i do say so myself. Like wise, the phoenix is a mixture of many different birds. I challenge you to see how many different genui of bird you can find in the picture. By themselves they sound ugly, but put together they bring out the beauty in each other together.3

Another reason is more or less symbolic. Not for a tear jerker, but i haven't had the Full House type of life. There are some days when even the sun outside seems dark and dank. But I rise up through my fears and apprehension. I've been to more funerals than I think legal. Yet again I smile. I think I've been through almost every dangerous encounter one could have, and I'll be the first to laugh at a dead baby joke (not that I support the killing of young children, but more on that later). the phoenix rebirths, lives on to rise the next day. Nothing can stop it. If there be just a bit of ash left of its fomer self, not even death can keep it from rising again to grace the whole with its song. 4

More than anything. the phoenix, in spite of its similarity to other mythical beast, is original. there aren't disputes about the phoenix's origins that require full shelves of libraries. It's almost unanimously agreed upon: The Phoenix is officially Epic! I am original in the sense that there is (oh spare the cliche) no one else like me. there is NO other creature like the phoenix. And it's a creature that can only do good. No evil can be found about its person. 5

Its infinitely what this world needs more than anything.6
