Mirror Of A True Life - Chapter 3

'~~~~~*Chapter`3*~~~~~'1

Relieved as the last bell rang across the hollow hallways and student-filled rooms, she walked to her locker unnoticed. She grabbed her books and her coat and walked outside and began to walk home. Along the way, she watched the children off the corner of her eye as she passed Independence Elementary as she did everyday. She saw the smiling faces as two boys raced to see who could get to the swings first. A little clique of girls were huddled by the tree talking. 'They're sure to be 'populars' when they get into high school,' she thought to herself. Another bunch of children were playing on the field in front of the school, just messing around as they waited for their parents to pick them up and take them home. With this sight that was brought to her eyes, the happiness, it made her feel so far away. She was so close to the world and all that were in it, close enough to touch them, yet she was so far away. A tear felt as if it was creeping towards her eyes looking for a way out, but she didn't let that happen, at least not now. 2

She kept her eyes ahead of her and kept walking the long straight path towards her cursed house. Wishing that she wouldn't have to return to that horrible place, she tried to slow her pace and take smaller steps. It only took her about two minutes to realize that she wouldn't be able to keep up with that slow of a walk. So she decided to walk the normal pace she's always walked when she was going home. Cars passed by her. Not much, of course. But enough to make her feel even more sad when she would see their smiling faces. She hurried home now, wanting to feel the relief of soothing music blasting in her room. She got home about twenty minutes later and went straight into her room. She put in her favorite song and let it ring into her small delicate ears. The soothing song was called 'Bedshaped' by Keane. In desperate hopes for relaxation, she sits back on her bed, lets her face sink into her feathered soft pillow and let her caught up emotions from the day unwind. 3

'I know you think I'm holding you down4

And I've fallen by the wayside now5

And I don't understand the same things as you6

But I do 7

Don't laugh at me8

Don't look away' 9

Her parents came home about 3 hours later on that night. As they called her in for dinner, she only sank into the lyrics of her song deeper. A sudden knock came to her door. Quickly she wiped her eyes to make sure none of the tears that wanted to come out actually come out. She took a quick moment to glance at the mirror to make sure she was presentable to her parents only to hear the voice again, 'We need to have a talk, my deviled child.' The voice was faint, but enough to be heard. She turns away and goes toward to door as the body in the mirror mocks her every move. The lips in the mirror, as they moved, looked exactly the same as the child who stood behind the closed door. Although it looked so alike, they were so different. The ones in the mirror seemed to be making fun of the real one. It was an odd sight to see, but it showed. Her mother asked her if she was coming to dinner. She replied with the same answer she's given all week which was again another lie, 'I'm not hungry, I'm still full from lunch, I had a big one again today.' She turns away from the door, trying hard not to look into the figure in the mirror. Success. Turning into the place she loves, her lovely bed, the flash of emotion came rushing back into her mind.10
