Right Behind Me

“So I went outside,” I told you, keeping my voice down just a bit, “with a jar that I had poked holes in, gathering every insect and spider I saw. I even threw in some leaves and grass that they could eat. Insects eat grass and leaves, right? Anyway, I think this will be a good lesson for her, treating me the way she did. My GPA is above a 3.5. I deserve to go out and party tonight. What’s so bad about a couple bugs in your bed anyway?”1

You give a blank stare.2

I turn around.3

“Hi, mom.”4
