Chapter Two1

Acacia Rue opened the door to her limo disgustedly and waited for her driver to come around.2

“Oh. Acacia. You, um, let yourself out.” Dean muttered.3

“Yes, I did, Duh-Een, because you were late! What, are you gonna make me get my bags too?” She drew a pearly pink-manicured hand to her heart. “I am nawt excited for this boarding school, but the least you could do is get the door!”4

“Don’t make a scene, Acacia.” He mumbled.5

Acacia (pronounced uh-kay-shuh) was the daughter of ridiculously rich director and actor Michael Rue and his wife, successful, still-at-it pop star Eden Limereck-Rue, a.k.a. Edie. She lived on a gigantic estate in Beverly Hills, as did many in that zip code.6

“Well?” She tapped her foot. “Vamoose!” 7

Dean rolled his eyes and bolted to the trunk, retrieving her embossed Louis Vuitton suitcases. He stacked them onto a luggage cart, the type that is metal colored to look like gold. Acacia frowned, "That one's on an angle. Remember, I want everything straight and orderly!" Dean fixed the crooked suitcase, a little more forcefully than he had to. Acacia twirled one of her pink streaks, and let it fall back into her sea of golden blond. 8

She walked across the uneven stone path, careful enough to keep her one-inch heels steady and still walk with spirit and confidence, like any smart secure person would. Meanwhile, Dean struggled behind, hauling the cart around, going over lots of bumps. He seemed like he was making himself cartsick. And the facial expression he carried was obviously nervous, for if anything fell he would get the worst lecture from a certain brat. 9

They both made it to the main lobby, where each student was to wait until they were called into the office for registration. Finally Acacia was beckoned to the office. It was a large room with fuzzy brown carpet, warmhearted pink walls, and a comfy blue couch. Acacia walked to the porcelain desk, managed to read the nametag on the office person's shirt (Ms. Jarina), and glanced at her watch for dramatic effect. She made sure Ms. Jarina knew she wanted to get out of there ASAP, and Ms. Jarina nodded as if to say, "I know, honey. I want to rush through this also." 10

She gave her the District Student Handbook, a list of classrooms, numbers, and teachers, and a small, shiny card to her dorm room. "One more thing, Acacia," Ms. Jarina added, "You're sharing your dormitory with Hazel Halliwell."11

"Okay then, I'm off. Um, thanks, I guess." Acacia didn't even care who the heck Hazel was, she just wanted to get settled for her sake. She left the office and mouthed, "Come awn!" to Dean, who smirked. 12

They got into the elevator. "Soda." Acacia held her hand out. Dean shoved a 7-Up onto her hand, and she pulled it open. The fizz exploded over her hand just a little bit, and Acacia looked up with squinting brown eyes. But she said nothing. Dean looked ready to dash out the door, wheel the suitcases over by the dorm door, and get the heck out of there, but he did everything perfectly because of his fear. 13

Acacia did flawless cartwheels down the long hallway, landed in the "Ta-da!" position, and brushed off her Tiffany blue cardigan, even though it had nothing on it. She was exactly next to her door. She pulled the silver card from her pocket, slid it through the gap in the doorknob, and opened the door. Acacia's eyes met with the most amazing room she'd ever seen - aside from her house.14
