Anti-Stereotype

[A pale girl stands, one hand on her hip, a half smile playing at her lips. She is wearing little makep, only dark eye liner, and dark clothes. Lighting is normal, and she addresses the audience as though she is conversing with them.]1

They claim that I am a punk girl, but they are wrong about that. A punk girl cares as much about the polotics of the music as she does the sound. She's fierce, angry, a music snob whose completely dedicated to the punk ideology. "Fuck you all," she likes to say. I am not that girl, I wish I could be that girl. I know girls like that and I envy them, so strong and confident, dedicated and aloof, pissed off and too cool to give a damn. I am so not that girl.2

Me, I kinda go with the flow, my dirtiest little secret is that I like all kinds of music, from punk to opera to some serious soul. Southern fried rock, bubblegum pop, grunge, indie, emo, screamo, kick ass rocker chicks, big band, old school rock and roll, swing, heavy metal, synthesized, disco, japanese techno, bittersweet ballads, blues tunes, Irish folk songs, salsa, jazz, hip hop, even a little rap. Acoustic, electric, loud, quiet, hard, soft, I like it all. But if you have to stick a label on me you should know that underneath the eyeliner and saftey pins theres nothing but a hippy chick with an electric guitar crooning out grunge rock with soul that would make both kurt cobain and ray charles proud.3

So if you wanna stick a label on me I'd get writing, because I'm the anti stereotype. I'm an artsy, indie, emo, hippy, rocker chick, with a love for grunge and soul and anyone who can really rock out. 4
