Akhenaten

In 1364 B.C. an Egyptian city called1

Armana,capitol of a heretic pharaoh2

Amenophis IV ordered only one God3

To be worshiped , the Sun 4

The Aten "Disc of the Sun"5

He even changed his name to Akhenaten6

"He who is pleasing to Aten"7

A revolutionary religion, to worship one God8

The very fabric of Egyptian society was at stake9

When the renegade Pharaoh mounted the throne10

Egypt was at the height of her power11

Under the so called new kingdom12

The pharaohs no longer erected pyramids13

Preferring elaborate tombs hewn out of the rock14

In the valley of the Kings near Luxor15

Akhenaten's queen was Nefertiti 16

Reknown for her exquisite beauty 17

Paradoxally her King was of the most imperfect form18

And thus began a new worship not without its secret enemies19

But he died in 1347 replaced by Tutankhaten20

Changing also his name to Tutankhamen21

Reflecting a reversion to the ancient dynastic deities22

The most famous of the pharaohs 23

For his discovery in 1922 A.C.24

His reign being short and tragic 25

But nevertheless he restored  26

All the former Gods27

But this was not enough to appease 28

As in 1400 B.C. a general called Horemheb29

Came to the throne and set about annihilating30

The paraoh's memory 31

Armana was deserted and demolished 32

Only rubble left and statues of Akhenaten were smashed33

As a final gesture a layer of cement was poured 34

Over all foundations of Armana's temples 35

Thus the city was preserved 36

When it was rediscovered , the pharaoh Akhenaten was never found37

He who called himself the Son of the Sun 38

Interesting history of Akhenaten. Egyptians for what ai know were great worshippers of the Sun. Tutankanhaten is the one I heard of most, for most obvious reasons. Cake
