oo0. Prologue- The Original Evil

Salazar Slytherin was one of the four founders that created Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He came from an old family of wizards who through the ages had devoutly kept with their standards of marrying nothing but the purest of bloods. He had been taught their ways and could not be persuaded against them. He believed only the worthy should attend his beloved school.1

Godric, Helga, Rowena, and Salazar had always been the best of friends. They had stuck by each other and always supported the others beliefs even though they normally were much different then their own. They each had a different personality, and this seemed to only make them flow perfectly together. They completed each other. Godric was always the brave one. True and loyal, you could always count on him to jump in front of a dragon... or off a cliff if it meant saving your life or just putting other and he himself in danger. He was the adventurous of them. Helga was ever the sweetest with her kind heart and helpful ways. She would do anything for anyone. Really. Need your cat fed while you're on vacation? Just ask. She'll be there for you. Such a push over... Rowena always had her nose stuck in a book. She was the smarty pants. She was always correcting the others grammar and telling them off when they were wrong. Show off. Salazar was conceited. He was prideful and one of the more selfish of the lot. Every one still loved him though, and he did have his finer moments. He also made sure you knew when he did.2

Conflicts rose amongst them but quickly settled out. Someone was always there to keep the peace, and these four friends stayed true to one another. They devised the plan to build the biggest and best wizarding school in the country and soon set out to do so. Using their prestigious magic skills the school was soon erected and stood towering over the four of them as they looked proudly at their completed masterpiece, but it was still missing one thing, students. When witches and wizards learned of it they soon enquired about sending them there. The four set about to making sure their school received the true brilliance that came from England and the surrounding countries. That is when the first glimpse of Salazar's maliciousness shown.3

"I do not believe that we should put up with those... those... half-breeds. We are supposed to be one of the finest schools, not some charity for the unfortunate."4

"Salazar," Helga said calmly, "Children do not choose their parents. They can't help it that they are not pure like you are, but they do deserve the chance to lean magic like you."5

"You think that you're so high and mighty, but you're just like them. There was a time when you knew as little as they do, and they should get the chance to learn what you know." Godric glared at him. They, of the four, had never really gotten along but had simply put up with each other for the sake of the other two.6

"I think they're disgusting. Why should they get to learn about magic if they themselves do not come from magical families? When are they ever going to use it?"7

"When they enter the wizarding world. Everyone should get the chance at knowledge. We can not all be as smart as I."8

"Shove it, Ravenclaw." Salazar stood up from the table and his chair almost toppled over from the force. "You're going to wish you had listened to me when you're school is being over run by those filthy mongrels. You will all deeply regret ever crossing me."9

"On the contrary, Slytherin, you are the one who is crossing us." 10

Grodric stood up but much calmer then Salazar. The two men stood facing each other for the longest moment before Salazar finally walked out of the room, casting one more spiteful look back at the other three. At this time, none of them knew the evil Salazar would set loose upon the school and upon the wizarding world. He would be the reason for all the hate. He would be the reason for the wars. He was the original evil.11

"They'll be sorry," he repeated over and over again to himself as he stumbled out of the grounds, half crazed in his utter rage. 13

He apparated back to his family manner where he sat, pondering just how he would make them pay for what they had done to him. His thoughts began to wander from one horrible thing to another. In a mind so wicked there were few things that couldn't be mixed among the malice that dwelled there. His wife stayed in the next room horrified of what her husband might do to the others, then she herself began to devise a plan.14

Her smooth hands went gently to his cheeks as she turned his glowering face towards her softly smiling one, the she kissed him tenderly and whispered, "I will always love you, Salazar."15

His face softened ever so slightly as he whispered, "I love you too, Amelia."16

She left him to his sulking, and she walked down the hall to her sons room. "Go Tell your father that you love him," she said as she poked her blond head into the doorway and looked down at a nine-year-old miniature of Salazar.17

"But why, Mama? You know how he gets when he's in one of his moods. I don't want him to yell at me."18

"Oh, he will do no such thing. Just do what you're told Sereno."19

She went to her room then. She knew what she had to do, and she had to do it quickly before she changed her mind or, worse, Salazar decided to act. A letter was forged with the sincere apologies of Godric, Helga, and Rowena, and a powerful curse was put upon an old trunk that Amelia had stuffed away in a closet for years. It broke her tender heart to do this, but she had no choice. Her husband was was well beyond her help.20

"Darling, look what just came for you!" she said as she sat the trunk down, which she had tied a neat bow and the letter on-top of, in front of him.21

A devilish smirk spread across Salazar's face as he read it. "I knew the wouldn't last long without me, but I expected that than a-" He was abruptly cut off as he opened the trunk and peered inside. "Amelia, what have you done?"22

"I'm so sorry, Salazar, but I had no choice."23

There was horrible sucking, grinding sound as he was pulled into the box, and then she quickly clasped it shut. It shuttered for a moment and there was a faint sound of screaming, then it lay still as it would for over a thousand years. The only things left of Salazar Slytherin was a silver locket and the terror his wife had been too late to stop.

Author notes

I got this idea somewhat from the part in the HP and the Order of the Phoenix where they're in the Department of Mysteries, and Ginny sees a humming bird in this globe thing, that is continuously going through the aging process. Plus, I absolutely love Salazar, and I really wanted to go onto something more about him.
