The Fox

Once upon a time, it was a cold and snowy night. All the humans were snuggled in their homes by the fire. All the animals in the forest were cozy in their homes except for a lonely fox in the middle of the woods. 1

The fox saw a bird sleeping in her nest. He said, "Ms. Bird, I am cold and I have no one to love me. I have no where to go. Please invite me into your home."2

Ms. Bird trembled with fear. She shook her head. "No. I see your sharp claws. You would surely eat me!" She closed her eyes and Mr. Fox hid his claws in shame.3

Mr. Fox then saw a bunny rabbit in his burrow. He said, "Mr. Bunny, I am cold and I have no one to love me. I have no where to go. Please invite me into your home." 4

Mr. Bunny hid in his burrow. "No. I see your sharp teeth. You would surely eat me!" Mr. Fox hid his teeth in shame.5

Mr. Fox was lonely and sad. He had no one to love him and nowhere to go. He walked to the house of the humans and looked into the window. 6

Suddenly, a mouse appeared in the window. He said, "Hi Mr. Fox. It sure is cold out there, do you want to come inside?"7

Mr. Fox couldn't believe it. He said, "I have sharp claws and teeth. I may eat you." The mouse laughed. 8

"Silly Mr. Fox, I won't judge you. I trust you and all animals deserve to be loved."9

The fox and the mouse were friends for the rest of time.

Author notes

I know this may seem silly, but I actually wrote it in Spanish for a project. I just translated it back into English

    Claps.

This is a good story. Fable-style.

What makes this story good is the message behind it--that everyone in this world deserves to be loved.

    Keep writing.

    Perfect!

This is exactly what I wanted. Finally there is someone that doesn't make children's stories drag; excellent job. Good luck in the contest!
