“What?” I asked in complete disbelief. “Trust me, I wouldn't lie to you.” Darien said honestly looking from the papers in my hand; and into my eyes. “Trust me, I do its just… I don’t… Know what to say.” He smiled gently, “You're in safe hands.” “Ahem, now, what is all of this stuff for, just to allow you to protect me?” 3

He nodded. “Under any costs…”  “Any?” I asked eagerly. “Yup,” “If you could manage to keep me away from that bastard of a boyfriend/ex-fiancée of mine that would be great!” 4

“Consider it done, look, I know its late and everything, there’s some night wear for you in the closet, I need to go meet with an associate of mine, I'll be back in maybe thirty minutes to an hour max, I'll send a friend in to keep you company if you'd like…” 5

“Sure, I'm sorta freaked as it is…” “Her name's Jade, you guys should get along great, she's part of the Neterus women council, and will be honored to meet you I'm sure. Anyways, she should be in, in a few but I've gotta run, be safe your highness.” He took my hand and kissed the back of it softly, looked into my eyes, and walked out the door. 6

I shook away my chills, and began towards the closet, and opened it, there were so many extravagant night gowns made of silk and lace, there was a particular green one I became fond of, and slipped on after undoing my corset which was particularly hard without assistance. I then began fiddling with the remote when there was a knock at the door. I scrambled up from my relaxed position and peeked through the little hole seeing a frizzy red haired Irish looking girl with potentially stately womanly attributes; once the distortion fell away from my view as I opened the door to a bright but shy smile. 7

“Hi, I'm Jade, third chair in the council…” She bowed in an elegant curtsey, not looking me directly in the eye, as most people below rank would do…8

“Lighten up,” I assured her bringing her chin to meet my eyes. “I assure you the pleasure is all mine.” “Oh, thank you, your highness, really,” Her freckled cheeks began to flush in her shyness. “You look most ravishing in that gown by the way,” She added. “Are you kidding me? I’m rags compared to you!” I said marveling her voluptuous black dress, showing off cleavage, and wonderful ivory legs. 9

“Thanks,” She said again. “So, how do you like it? Its rather nice isn’t it? Compared to our other places…” She said her arms, and perfectly manicured hands gesturing about the room. “I hate to break it to you but I haven't 'officially' been to a meeting of the Neterus, in fact, I barely learned I'm the Queen… For all I knew an hour ago I was just… a Neteru.”10

“Wow, really? Well, we're meeting tomorrow morning… Darien will escort you, as a matter of fact, I think he’s taken a liking to you…” I blushed. As if on cue Darien came in, seeming a little put out. “He hasn’t arrived yet, they don’t expect him until morning tomorrow, and he KNOWS this is important!” He flopped on the bed and heaved a sigh, his eyes froze on me in the nightgown and I blushed even more… 11

“Ahem,” Jade flattened the front of her dress… “I uh, I'll go then, I'll see you two tomorrow?” “Yeah definitely,” Darien assured her. “And if you see McVaugh, tell him I have a few things I need to say to him…” 12

“Yikes,” She said seeing the expression on Darien's face. “Yeah, I will, see you,” She then left out the door without another word. 13

“You look good,” Darien commented as I slid in beside him. “Ahem, th…thanks,” “Yeah,” He said suddenly breaking the awkward silence. “We'd better get some sleep… we have a lot to do tomorrow…” “Mmmhmmm…” I agreed closing my eyes. I hadn't felt anything more comfortable in all my days of existence. The last thing I remember is Darien putting an arm around me as I fell sweetly into slumber. 14
