OBAMAVILLE1
His head slightly bowed, eyes to the ground in thought, ten-year-old Ulysses Smith walks slowly from the gray and green school bus. None of the other children look out at him. His uniform, gray with a green crescent, is aging. It has not grown with him. Though he is looking downward, he stumbles. His eyes are on a question not the gray walkway. Before him, is the housing where he lives with his mother, grandmother and sister. All the units are gray and numbered. That is, all but one. The large green one, separate, gated, with a large dark green crescent.2
Its now fall and the outside and inside temperature is the same. Without the fall breeze it seems warmer inside. Ulysses doesn’t notice that his breathing has become labored as he reaches the unit his family has been assigned. He opens the door, there are no locks, they are not allowed. “Mother” he calls, with a risk of excitement in his young voice. Crossed the living room, not noticing the gray walls or drab green furniture. The units of all his friends are exactly the same. He goes to his bedroom, which he shares with his six-year-old sister. He places his books and notes on his small green bed. His books are on political correctness and social obedience. His sister is not in their room. This is odd. There is no place to go without asking first. He begins to panic. Where are my sister, my mother, and my grandmother? He hurries through the tiny kitchen to his mother and grandmother’s bedroom. He is relieved to see them sitting on the green and gray bed. The room is small but his mother keeps it neat. There is a radio on a small table. It is seldom used, it only has one channel. His grandmother is getting old and there is the smell of age in the room.3
“Ulysses, you are home, we were just talking about you, how was school?” “Oh it was the same, sort of.”4
He tingles with the urgency of his new found question. He postpones the question and asks. “ What was your day like Mom?” 5
“ Well the gray men did their weekly surprise visit to inspect our trash and read our mail. They also asked us to sign a paper saying that we have not entered into a permanent relationship with a person of the opposite sex. Really, your grandmother, but they say they don’t want to take any chances.”6
Ulysses sits between his mother and grandmother. Missy, his sister, moves to the gray floor to play with the approved doll. Missy’s real name is Sarah. But since He banned the name, it is only used in secret.7
“Mother, I have a friend. His name is Everyboy. He told me something and I don’t understand.”8
“Well Ulysses, what did he say?” “Mom, I am not sure I should say. I don’t want to get you in trouble.”9
“ Your father and grandfather always spoke the truth before He had them taken. Why should you be different.” 10
“Ok, here it is.” Ulysses looks up at his mother and feels safe. 11
“Everyboy told me he woke up late at night and heard his mother and father talking. I know, I know, yes they have not taken his father yet. He said they spoke about the Before. Before Him. Mother, what were they talking about?”12
“Ulysses, Everyboy’s parents are very brave as were your father and grandfather, and you are very brave to ask. I will try to tell you what I know, but you must never reveal this to anyone, they are always watching, waiting.”13
‘No, I will not have it.” “Grandmother, what do you mean, can’t I ask?’ “ Of course you can ask, but I cannot let you mother answer. She must be protected against Him. I am old and toughened and I will tell you what happened. But, as your mother said, you must never reveal you knowledge for the sake of your family.”14
“Grandmother I promise never to tell.”15
“I will check the door and the window to make sure no one hears”. Ulysses scurries through the tiny unit checking its meager security16
“Ok, grandma I am ready for the story”.17
“ It began many years ago, before the election of evil. They started it quietly, unnoticed. The American people were a trusting, sharing people. And they knew this and they used it against them. They began with a concept of political correctness. The Americans never want to insult anyone. This weakness they used against them. They started by teaching children that brown is black. That beige is white. They twisted fact to fiction. They bought the souls of all men and women that received money from TV, radio, and newspapers. Even an independent Internet group called Yahoo succumbed to His monetary pressure. He had so much money given to him. Each donor had their own vision of how He would reward them, The Media giants expected huge rewards from his new taxes. They expected He would use His new taxes to support their companies. He didn’t. He formed his own media. All media is now controlled by Him. You will know only what He allows. There is no art, but what He allows. There is no extraneous thought but what He allows. We had a great country once. But ignorance, fraud, apathy and greed gave way to the most evil game the earth has ever seen. I pray, I know that He has made this Illegal, that you and Everyboy fights to regain our country. My days are short but with God’s help yours and Everyboy’s may be longer,”18
“ Thank you grandma, I will try. But grandmother, I have another question. Why can everyboy and I see the bad of HIM and nobody else except mom and you?”19
“ Has you mother ever told you the story of the king that wore no clothes?”20
“I don’t remember it.”21
“Then it time for your sister and you to hear it.”22
“Mother.” Ulysses whispers with trembling lips. “ Was that the door opening”.23
