A repetitive beeping stirred Chris into conscienceness and she whined quietly as the blinding white lights of the hospital hurt her eyes while she tried to open them. After several blinks, she could see. She glanced to the left, seeing the monitor and IV hooked to her. To her right, she saw her stained, bandaged arm and her boyfriend in the distance, curled up on the couch of the room. She knew he wasn't asleep for his body was too tense to be unconscience. "Shay..." She called lightly to him. His frame shot up like a rocket and stumbled over to her. He was amazed to see her awake again. Seeing him this close to her, Chris could see his bloodshot, tired, dulled green eyes. "How long have I been asleep?" she asked. "Two days," he answered, his voice exhausted as much as everything else was about him. Chris cringed and regretted causing this much commotion. "I'm sorry," she whispered. "No, I'm sorry. Chris, if anything is bothering you, you shouldn't hide it from me." He took her hand and interlaced her fingers with his. "I don't want to have to burden you..." She replied in a weak voice. He laughed, finding black humor in the statement. "Telling me things I may not like could never compare to how much pain I'd be in if you died." Tears welled inside her eyes. "I'm sorry..." He squeezed her hand hand between the both of his. "Chris, I want to spend my life with you. I don't care if you do something wrong. I don't care if bad stuff happens. I love you and nothing will ever stop that." Chris flustered and exclaimed, "I know! It's just... I don't always know that... Sometimes I fear you won't always think that..." Shay smiled a bit and ran his thumb over the back of her hand. "You just need faith, and that's fine. I mean, I understand why you have doubts. Anthing good you ever had ended bad." Chris nodded. "But I swear, I'm here for you. Through thick and thin. Through good times and bad... Through sickness and in health..." He trailed over and grinned stupidly. "Until death do us part?" Chris asked, going along with it. Shay shook his head, not losing the beautiful smile. "No, beyong that." Chris felt the blush as it warmed her cheeks and turned them a light pink color. "I love you, Chrissy." "I know. I love you, Shay."1
