Waking up the next morning, Amelia remembered her brother was on a business trip and went downstairs to find Marik in the kitchen making breakfast. He didn't even notice her until she cleared her throat announcing her arrival. When he turned, he said 'morning' and turned back to the stove. He was obviously not a friendly person in the morning, and it showed in his voice.1
"What's for breakfast?"2
"What do you want?" He asked gently.3
"What?"4
"What do you want for breakfast?" He turned to her, expecting an answer, when she didn't give her one he asked if she was ever able to choose her own breakfast.5
"No. He always chose for me. Mostly for what was best for me."6
"Has he ever let you cook your own breakfast? Do you even know how to cook anything?"7
"No, and no."8
She felt embarrassed, she was never asked this by anyone else who took care of her. Face it, she was a complete idiot. I mean she didn't even know how to cook eggs, let alone a big meal for a family of her own, if she were to ever have one. She looked up at him with shame on her face. "I'm sorry."9
"What are you sorry for. Every girl should know how to cook, come here, I'll teach you how to cook something, and we'll do this every night until you have it down pat."10
Amelia didn't move. 11
"What's wwrong? Don't you want to learn how to cook something?" 12
"Yes. But my brother told me not to ever cook something without his permission."13
"Your brother is not in charge right now, I am. Now come on over here. We'll start with eggs."14
Amelia walked over to him from the other side of the room and quietly watched and waited for him to teach her how to make her very first meal. During the time that he was teaching her, he realized that he really enjoyed her company. Even though she really didn't know much of anything. Her brother sheltered her from doing anything on her own. Leaving her dependent on him for almost everything. That was about to change. 15
After breakfast Marik realized that the clothes she had on her were a bit small.16
"Has he ever taken you clothes shopping?"17
"No. He goes on his own and brings me home things. Most of the time they are way to small for me."18
"Hahhh. Get your things we're going clothes shopping."19
"What? But my brother is going to kill you. Why are you doing all this for me?"20
"Because this is not right. You should have things that fit you, you should know how to cook... what other things has he not taught you?"21
"Put it simply, not much at all. I don't know anything about surviving other than what I've learned on the streets."22
"Grr. Get your things, I'm taking you around town."23
Amelia got her things and met Mar at the door. He let her out first then locked the door behind him. Walking down the street, Marik told her how to pay bills and how to budget her money. Amelia listened to everything he said and was actually starting to like this guy alot. No one ever took an interest in her well-being before. All they ever did was follow her brother's orders and kept her locked in her room.24
"Where are we stopping first?"25
"Clothes store. You can go in and get yourself some clothes, anything you want, Here's two-hundred dollars to spend. If you don't find what you want we'll go to another store. There's plenty of them around this area."26
They walked several miles and stopped in front of a store. Marik gestured to the store.27
"Go on in. I'll wait here."28
