PROMPT: Write about earliest childhood memory.1
There is one good thing about school. It helps you categorize your memories. I have all these memories and I have no fucking idea when they happened. So, I’ll pick my earliest school memory.2
It was the first day of preschool and we were all sitting in a lopsided circle. The teacher tells us about the types of activities we’ll be doing. I’m about …what?...4 years old, so I don’t take in any of the surroundings. Life is all about the moment when you’re that young. 3
The teacher concludes the lecture by saying, “When you have a question or want to say something, you can either raise your hand or put your hands on your head like this.” She showed the class. Thinking back on it, I suppose they wanted to give us choice and multiple ways to get involved. At the time, I didn’t understand how two actions could mean one thing and which one was the right way of doing it. 4
So my first memory is thinking…What the fuck? What does this lady want me to do. Raise my hand or put my hands on my head. Either one makes me feel like an idiot. 5
Later that year, I noticed that most of the kids started raising their hands instead of putting their hands on their head. I didn’t understand why they favored that way if both methods were valid. So, I put my hands on my head and I was never called on. Guess the teachers forgot about the rule. I didn’t care, except … I looked like a retard with my hands on my head for most of the year.6

Cute! Really cute! My first memory is of flicking bugs, believe it or not.
It was really a strange memory. I was like...four or something. My sister claims to remember something from when she was one. I've told her time and again that such isn't possible. The part of the brain that involves memories doesn't start working until we are like almost four or something. I really liked the last paragraph in this piece and I don't see any typos. Always a good thing.
