A Dance We Will Never Forget

“ Bye Mom, see you at 9 o’clock,” yelled Clara as she walked up the stone steps into the gymnasium. Clara was wearing a punk-like shirt with a skull and her favorite pair of pants and sneakers. She paid her five dollars and walked into the gym with Fall Out Boy’s latest song blaring and everyone dancing. Clara saw Bryan and was about to walk up to him when he walked up to a girl with blonde hair, skirt and a spaghetti strap shirt. Clara sighed.1

Clara saw Jim and walked right up to him and asked, “Hey Jim, why is Bryan talking to that girl?” 2

“I don’t know. I think he is talking to her to try to gain courage to ask her to dance the next slow song,” Jim said.3

“Why?” asked Jim.4

Clara didn’t answer. Truth is she felt sort of jealous that Bryan was interested into another girl. Well, let’s try and see what he says, she thought to herself. Clara walked up to Bryan.5

“Hey Bryan, can I ask you something? It will only take a few seconds,” said Clara.6

“ No. I’m sort of busy,” he replied annoyed.7

Clara walks away to the concession stand and buys a drink. She felt like crying but didn’t. It doesn’t matter I’ll ask him to dance later and do my plan later; she thought to herself half-heartedly.8

Later as she was outside waiting for her mom to come pick her up.9

“Clara can I talk to you,” said a voice behind her.10

She looked behind her and saw Bryan.11

“Umm. Sure,” she answered.12

“I’m sorry for being rude to you”13

“It’s ok. No biggie”14

“Umm. I know this is short noticed but will you go out with me,” he asked sort of nervously.15

“Yes,” she answered happily16

They heard a slow song come on and danced. They leaned forward and . . . 17

“Clara! Stop,!” yelled one of Clara’s friend.18

Bryan kissed Clara on the cheek and said19

“See you Monday. Ok,?”20

“Yeah,” Clara said disappointedly she looked at her friend angry.21

“Umm. Sorry. I guess I wanted to be the first one to you know,” said Vicky, Clara’s friend.22

“So, you see Elizabeth, it may be hard to find but, You know what it may be right in front of you and you wouldn’t know it,” said Clara.24

“Wow Grandma, so that was when you and grandpa got together for the first time,?” said Elizabeth.25

“Yup,” said Clara.26

“You know what I would like to go out to dinner for our anniversary,” suggested a voice behind them.27

“Bryan you have to stop sneaking up on me like that,” said Clara “But yes I like the idea to go out for an anniversary dinner,”28
