I lay on my soft, comfortable bed staring at my book I rented at the library. As I glance at the book word for word, I hear something. My face turns pale, and I ask, "Hello?" I was so scared of the possibilities: A robber, a killer, or a ghost. But then I thought it was my imagination, so I just kept reading. Well, it was my imagination, but not in the form I'd like it to be in.1
"Yeah, I'd like to make a complaint," answered a mad voice. I jumped at this, for I had not expected it at all.2
I slowly looked up, and sighed with relief of who it was. It wasn't a robber, or a killer, or a ghost. It was Eric from my story, 'What We Were'. He seemed pretty upset, for he was tapping his toe on the floor. I put my hand over my heart. "Eric, you scared me so much," I told him, putting my homemade bookmark in my last page. "How the heck did you get here on Earth?"3
I could tell by his mad look that he wasn't here for anything good. He started pacing angrily. "Flowerbee1234, I demand that you change the story," he ordered, looking out the window. "It does not end up the way it should."4
"Excuse me?" I questioned, glaring at him. "I created you, so I can write the story anyway I want it to. Now just crawl back into the book and continue doing the actions I wrote about over and over again."5
It looked as if steam was coming out of Eric's ears. "I demand that you make Makayla get back together with me!" he screamed, sitting beside me on my bed. 6
"NO!" I hissed back at him. "Listen Eric. If you do not stop this begging, I will change the writing so that Makayla tells you how much she hates you, and you'll never get back with her!"7
Makayla was his ex girlfriend who dumped him because she saw him with another girl. In the story, 'What We Were' Eric complains about how he wants her back. Just when I thought Eric would yell at me once more, another character from the series came out. But unfortunately, it was Makayla. Her hair was all wet, and she was shivering. "Makayla?" I wondered, staring at her. "What are YOU here for?"8
"Flowerbee1234, I am tired of waiting at the bus stop in the freezing rain over and over again," she shivered, chattering her teeth. She didn't even notice Eric. "You know I'm cold blooded!"9
I shrugged. Makayla's side of 'What We Were (Makayla's Version) was about Makayla wanting to date Eric again, but feels she'd be weak if she got back together. She stood at the bus stop for about an hour in the freezing rain, which is why she is so cold. "I'm really sorry, Makayla," I apologized. "I had to add detail about where you were when Eric was watching you."10
Then she turned her attention to Eric, for she ignored him the whole time. "Why did you watch me!?" she asked madly, shoving him away. "You creep, you!"11
I closed my eyes tightly, because I greatly wished I was dreaming. But sadly, I wasn't. The fight got pretty ugly, and soon they started throwing books off my bookshelf at each other. "Hey, stop it, you two!" I said, hopping between them. I pushed them both to the side. I paused for a long time while they each got their breath. "Listen," I started, staring at Eric, who was frowning. "I know you don't like each other, but..."12
"No, we HATE each other," Eric rudely interrupted. Even though I tried to avoid that word, he said it, and that was that.13
"Dislike is nicer," I finished, biting my lip. Then I got to the point. "Listen, I know you guys both secretly love each other in the book, and try to hate each other, but you don't. I'm not going to change the book one bit because I like what happens in the ending."14
"What!" they both gasped, their eyes growing wide. "What a nice author!"15
"Oh, shut up," I added angrily. "As I was saying, I like the way it ended. Life doesn't always work out the way you want it to, and that's just a part of living. But at least I made you guys sound real?"16
"What do you mean?"17
"Well, if I made you guys get back together in the ending, it wouldn't be realistic, or like life. And since it's like life, you're closer to a human, right? Think about it for a second."18
The room grow silent as the two teens thought hard about it. Makayla was the first one to speak. "I guess you're right," she concluded, putting her hands in her jean pocket. "Life doesn't always work the way you want it to."19
"Okay," Eric agreed coldly, looking at the floor. "Now what do we do?"20
"Well first as a special treat, give each other a hug," I instructed.21
Eric opened his arms wide, and she fell into them. "I missed you," she whispered in his ear. "I don't hate you- I love you." 22
As they were about to kiss, I yelled, "Okay, I need to go to bed now, so hurry back in the book!"23
They sprinted over to my book cover, backed up, and jumped inside. "See ya, Flowerbee1234!" they screeched, while flying inside of the book cover. Wow, what a day. Meeting your characters that you created was tiring, almost as tiring as running a marathon. I lay down back in bed, pulled up my covers, and started having really weird dreams with all of my characters inside of it. The End.24
