The Love We Had Before (a songfic)

(These are two of my own characters and by the way….Elk is a dude)1

All of these years Amy had tried to reach Elk, because he was a broken soul. He kept letting her in a little at a time. Yet in an instant Elk burnt down the friendship they had made. He betrayed her, lied to her,and abused her with his words. Amy had enough of the way he was treating her.4

But I left you feeling empty
That we couldn’t eye to eye
Why can’t we compromise?
Why are we choosing sides?5

This fight was petty. One unkind comment after another or some foolish action split them father apart from each other. Choosing sides was yet another big mistake of theirs. 6

When will be realize?7

You used to be one I’d run too9

In the past Elk would go to Amy about anything. He didn’t care if she was a girl because she was his only friend; they’d been through a lot together. She was the light in his darkness.10

But now I tend to run you
Right into the ground11

Amy had been hired as waitress at a restaurant to get some extra money. As she was carrying a tray full of food to a customer, someone who was already sitting stuck their leg out and tripped her. Amy went down with all the food that spattered all over her. Amy glanced between the noodles that blurred her vision and saw Elk- the one who had tripped her- with some of his “friends”. They were laughing and taunting her now.12

Sorry I was such a fool13

Amy stood with some dignity,grabbed Elk’s wine glass, and dumped the entire glass on his head.14

Never saw your point of view
Can we start over somehow?15

Amy sat against their tree one evening. Their tree. The one they’d meet each other at, make tree climbing contests when they were young, and where they would spend almost every night stargazing. Their tree. Amy heard someone behind her and looked to see Elk sitting on the opposite side. No words were spoken. The bitter silence was too thick between them.18

Why can’t we stop
And make a change
Where is the love?19

The question pounded in Amy’s mind.20

Elk asked Amy those simple 4 words. Amy didn’t respond.22

We don’t have to fight23

There was so much truth in such a small statement. They didn’t have to fight anymore. So what were they doing?24
