My Man's Gone Now

She had her eyes closed, but she was not asleep. She just lay there, listening to his voice inside her head. Over and over, the words he said to her. A broken record that she did not have the heart to fix. She never could imagine life without him. But now that he was gone, it wasn't all that bad. Her life went on. She went to work, she paid the bills, and she avoided thinking about him. Except on the occasional lonely night, when she couldn't help by cry for him. And no matter how hard she tried, her heart still yearned for him.1

This particular night was different. Of ll the nights she spent wishing he would walk through the door, he never did. This night, just like all the others, she lay there until unconciousness took her, And as she was drifting away, barely aware of anything, the door opened.2

And he struted back into her life.
