Controllers

I watched closely as the ice shot from her oustretched hands, completely freezing the tree that I was sitting next to. I shot up from where I was sitting because I hated the cold.1

I narrowed my eyes in anger. She knew that I hated the cold, so I didn't understand the need to turn that specific tree- the one I was next to- to ice. We were in a forest for God's sake. There are plenty of tree's.2

Before I knew what I was doing, red sparks shot from my clenched fists. My normally brown eyes were flooded with red. I lifted my hands and shot fire to the tree behind her.3

She jumped forward to escape the cold. She, like me, hated her opposite element. We were Controllers. There were five of us. I controll fire. Kaycee controlls ice/water. We hate each other. Which was an unfortunate thing because we're supposed to work together.4

Then there's Jake, my step-brother. He controlls earth, like dirt and rocks. And Kiera controlls the wind. And, there is my dad. He is our leader. He controlls all four elements. He told me stories when I was younger, how the power to control all four elements was passed on from generation to generation in our family.5

My father had controlled fire before he inherited the other elements. When my father is nearing death, I will inherit those same powers from him.6

My mother controlled wind, and my step-mother controls earth, just like her son. 7

Oh, and I forgot to mention that we are also shape-changers. We transform into wolves. A lot of people ask, "Are you werewolves?"8

I can tell you right now that if you were to ask any of us that question you would be in a whole lot of trouble. I, and I speak for all of us, hate the term werewolf. We are Controllers. We control the elements. It is an unfortunate coincidence that we resemble werewolfs.9

Werewolfs are controlless creatures. They can't control when they change, where they change, or what the do when they're changed. I mean, they howl, at the moon! How trivial is that?10

Kaycee continued her approach forward, water energy sparking and circling her hand. Her eyes narrowed and her dark blue eyes grew lighter as the energy built up inside. She was just about to incase me in water when in sounded. 11

The battle call cried through the woods. I immediately changed into my bright red wolf form. Kaycee's blue wolf form was already charging away. I chased after her toward to village.12

Our village was filled with the five tribes: Fire, Water, Earth, and Wind. But there are only five shape-changers in each generation. Those five protect the village. I have an apprentice; a boy younger than me training to be a shape-changer. He controls fire, which is why he was apprenticed to me.13

I saw Jake and Kiera running from the direction of where they had been training together. When we arrived in the village, I saw my father, in human form, speaking to a man. He looked like he was from the Orient. He had a long gray beard, to go along with long gray hair.14

I transformed and walked to them. "What's going on?" I asked. My father pointed to the man.15

"This, is the Trol," he said. My eyes widened. I had heard legends of the Trol, but I had never believed them. He was a prophet to Controllers, but it was rare that there was a propehcy to be told. It had been said that the Trol has only traveled to our village twice before. I bowed my head to him. He returned the gesture.16

"Why is he here?" I asked my father.17

"He has seen a great battle to come. It predicts the rise of a warrior, who betrayed his village. And the fall of an honest man," he replied. "Or woman, of course," he added, gesturing to the wolf forms of Kaycee and Kiera, whose white fur was bristled from the graveness of the message.18

"Who is battling us? Did he see?" I asked. Father shook his head. "When are they coming?" 19

"It is unknown," replied Father.

She jumped forward to escape the cold. She, like me, hated her opposite element.- if she is the controller of ice/water, as you say, then why does she hate the cold? Pehaps you meant 'heat'. Anyway, I think you have a great idea here, and I would like to read more. You did a good job of explaining what is going on, and what the characters are feeling. Great job, I hope you'll do more.

thanks. the more I actually think about this story, there is a lot that I am going to change, and I'm going to do a revised version. Then when I am finished with that I'll continue this. Thanks for pointing that out again!
