Falling Deep Chapter 10.2- Spain

The CEO of one of the world's largest production companies sounded stern. Jay recognised the urgency in his voice which unnerved him. 1

“You have to reserve power of your assets and the company to me......that miserable fuck of an accountant just tipped off the authorities on their scam, got out the records and kept them, I know that for a fact, he’s tried to get past the LAPD and the Feds, in fact they’re probably still looking for you this moment, a few of them are in Europe, I got a call from DC Marsden.” 322

“Listen, I don’t care, no, no way....not going to happen man, I’ve been through enough.” 333

“It has to happen. I’ve made an application to the LA Superior Court Commissioner. It’s for your own good. Otherwise anyone could touch it....” 344

Jay breathed in, “OK, but, nothing personal, you’re not going to be controlling my assets, that will be my sister’s job.” He knew if no one else, Miki would be reliable. She always was and always will be, that was just her. 355

“Are you sure about this? I’ll give her a call,” the lawyer said begrudgingly. 366

“I am, listen I’ve got to go, talk later. Oh and yeah, get Jack to fire the ass.” 377

Adi came in as soon as Jay hung up. “Who was that?” she asked curiously. 388

“My lawyer, you know, he wants me to reserve authority over my assets to him. I told him it’s got to be Miki.” 399

Adi still didn’t understand fully. Jay realised this. “That fucker of an accountant’s been messing with my accounts, in on Dewson to frame me.” Adi didn’t look shocked. “Should I be surprised? Babe I’ve been let down, cheated on, you name it, you’ve just got to take control of your life.” Jay smiled. “Yeah, so where’s Kat?” 4010

“Out, with my sister, she wanted to show her Alicante....no big,” she shrugged. 4111

“Hey, why don’t you and I go swimming tonight, we can have a nightcap to boot,” Jay suggested casually. 4212

“I don’t know,” Adi looked thoughtful, then suddenly effortlessly sultry. “I had something else in mind.” Shutting the door to the cellar bedroom and locking it behind her, she slid seductively towards Jay tugging at his towel. Jay put a hand in to stop her. “You’re going to have to catch me first,” he teased, racing his way into the wondrously modern and yet classically Mediterranean bathroom, Adi chasing him, screaming with excitement, careful not to bang into the walls. Adi suddenly grabbed hold of the towel around Jay’s body, pinning him back against the wall. 4313

Jay found this game pathetic and enthralling at the same time. Riding up onto Jay in a heat of passion, Adi wrapped her arms around him. Kissing her, he hiked up her sun-dress, undoing her undergarments once he took the dress off her. Jay and Adi fell back into the open shower, turning it on, Jay and Adi immersed them-selves in the magical bliss of unconventional love-making. Jay felt the relief as the tension withdrew from his body with every feel of Adi’s skin. Adi wanted to make this moment last. “Oh god,” she gasped. “More,” she moaned, the water dripping off her face, feeling Jay’s skin engulf her. It was truly heaven as far as she was concerned. Jay craved, wanted, needed every inch of Adi’s skin. It was just so divine. He knew then he couldn’t live without her. But a thought came over him. Jay stopped suddenly. “Jay. What? Why did you stop?” 4414

“I can’t do this any-more, I can’t keep pretending......look, I’ve been getting help,” he confessed as he picked up the towel he was wearing and dried himself off, Adi picked up a towel for herself and dried herself off. “What, what do you need to tell me.” 4515

Jay hesitated for a minute. “I, I um, really think it was Dewson who killed my Dad.” 4616

Adi still looked sympathetic. “I know, babe we’ve had this conversation.” 4717

“Oh, fuck it. It wasn’t that, I’ve been getting some help.” Jay admitted. He knew Adi may understand this but the thought of telling her about the deal with Dewson was too much to bear. It would be detrimental, not only to him but also to her. “Two guys called up and they want me to let them help me,” Jay confessed. Adi looked blank. “OK, hey look babes you’ve got to stop thinking about this,” she soothed. “We can go to Malaga tomorrow if you like, rent an apartment down there, bring Kat along to do some of the commentary?” Jay had almost forgot the project, it was at least a fortnight since he’d thought properly about continuing on with it. 4818

“OK, that sounds like a plan,” Jay smiled. The two then got dressed and sat by the pool for an hour, laying in each other’s arms, watching the sun-set and drinking Spanish cock-tails. A quintessential Spanish experience. “Hey, so tell me, when was the first time you knew you had fallen in love with me?” Jay asked her out of the blue. Adi was thoughtful for minute. “I’m not exactly sure the second, but it had to be just about the time I first laid eyes on you....happy?” Jay grinned, feeling satisfied. “I am as it happens because it means not a second of our deep, profound love was unrequited.” Adi was mesmerised by the sincerity that came out of something put so light-heartedly. “No?” she whispered, sounding like she thought. That all of this could be too good to be true....he really was in love with her. 4919

“No,” Jay whispered in response, stroking her dark, thick, silky hair. 5020

“You’re in love with me?” she whispered. “Wow, sometimes I wonder if it’s all too good to be true, you know.” 5121

“Yeah, that pretty much goes for me too, I mean a chick only wants one thing from me and it either has a condom, or lack of in my case, on the end of it or a dollar sign. Adi looked a little confused. 5222

“I don’t understand, have you always been rich?” she asked, listening to the Cicadas chirp away in the darkness of the night, around the magically lit pool side on the most comfortable pool-suite she’d ever laid on. “Yeah, my Dad owns one of the most successful businesses in Los Angeles. It’s not that different though because we don’t have a huge house. I mean it’s pretty big, as far as houses go, like, it’s no mansion though. It’s nice though, we’ve got properties all over the place.” Adi wondered about his lifestyle growing up. “So what was your childhood like, I mean really like. You’ve told me heaps of funny stories before.” Jay shrugged. “I don’t know how to explain it but pretty normal as far as childhood’s go. Mom and Dad weren’t always around as much as I would have liked them too, they were busy, Mom’s a lawyer....at least she was.” 5323

Adi thought it’d be good to share her side of the life story for a change. “Well, my childhood was crap, I moved out of home when I was seventeen, went to work at a dance studio, just doing promotional stuff for them.....I found it OK, I guess. Dewson, as big an arse as he is, was kind enough to me. I don’t know he’d be so kind to me now though. But I left the place half-way through university whilst I tried to keep the money coming in by working at a bar on Weekends, late shifts. It worked, I guess, whilst I was doing the Media and Photography in Marketing degree. ” Jay looked impressed. “Wow, flashy, I’ll say that! No, it’s impressive. So how long did it take you?” 5424

“Three years, I worked for a television company called ITV, assistant producer in TV shows, also doing some photography, since they knew my obvious strength.” Jay had to agree. Adi had shown him her photograph portfolio, it was incredible. She had learned to remaster the imagery to an art. “Hey you could work in our Marketing department,” Jay suggested enthusiastically. “You could create images for our campaigns.” Somehow the look on Adi’s face told him she wanted to avoid the subject. “What’s wrong, hey look, I was only suggesting, don’t take it too seriously.” Adi shook her head. “No, it’s not that, I just don’t want to have to, um, leave everything you know? I mean would I even fit in living in L.A., would I like living there?” Jay shrugged. “Hey I was born and bred in L.A. and I didn’t turn out to be an axe murderer did I!” he joked. Adi laughed. “I don’t know, how do I know you’re not?” Jay smiled. “Well, if I was, I wouldn’t be worrying too much because you’re far too sexy to kill,” he slurred a little sexily, kissing her passionately. 5525

“So, what kind of engagement ring would you want me to buy if I were to buy you one?” Jay asked out of nowhere. Adi was surprised by his timing and of course the question itself. “I don’t know, I haven’t thought about it,” she purred as she snuggled up to him on the sun-bed. “I wouldn’t mind a ruby ring, 9 carat gold band with 9 carat diamonds on the side.” Jay grinned. “Natural, I assume.” Adi nodded, “What else?” 5626

“Jay why are you asking me this?” she asked. “Do you want to propose?” Jay shook his head. “I think it’s a bit too early in the game to start thinking about that,” he told her quietly, he didn’t want to disappoint her but that was how he saw this relationship, going from strength to strength as it was. “I don’t think I’m ready to commit myself to marriage while there’s all this going on, I don’t know. It just doesn’t feel right.” Jay saw the disappointment in Adi’s eyes. “Were you hoping that was the reason for my random questioning?” Adi giggled. “Well, I suppose I was figuring there was something behind it,” she said. 5727

Jay had to agree that if there was one place which was absolutely perfect during the summer, it was Spain. Costa de Sol was his favourite place, he figured, throughout Spain and most definitely the Mediterranean. It had been several months though since he had left Spain and yet he was aching for adventure. Adi and Kat, however, were content. Adi and Kat had been working in the same large, heaving bar in Costa de Sol since they had arrived. It was Adi who suggested it....yet it took her time to explain Jay’s situation. Jay did work though, on the films that got past through. As one of the chief film editors and production managers at TNM he had his head in his laptop sitting by the pool on those long Spanish Summer days. Adi would come and join him sometimes before she had to go to work whenever work started later for her, which was every week. 5828

The weeks she worked earlier, however, Jay would join her in the evening for a stroll on the beach where they would watch the sun set. Once, Jay being the streetwise person he was, brought her a Von Dutch cap to hide her identity as he did as well as Gucci sunglasses. Adi paid but Jay promised to pay her back. He found it too risky at times, being around the CIA’s looking space. It was simply perfect, the whole reason people flocked to Spain every year was to get a dose of the wonderful scenery, climate, food and culture the country had to offer. This was one of the reasons Spain and Italy had to tie as two of Jay’s favourite places on earth. Especially in the height of summer.5929

Yet, the long summer turned into autumn and Adi, Jay and Kat began working on the filming around Spain, once the work had become scarce. Adi and Jay did go back to Italy as well, which happened to be one of Jay’s favourite places. 6030

Walking the elegant, stylish and classy streets of Florence Adi felt a surge of happiness as she smelt the delicious aromas of garlic and herbs emerging from the restaurants Jay and Adi walked past hand in hand, Jay with his signature baseball cap on, putting a protective arm around her. They had pizza, as Jay promised in Rome, a city they were aching to get good shots of. Later at their hotel Jay, with Adi’s help, finished editing the footage of Milan, Florence and Rome when their encounter became sexual once more, like Milan, like Barcelona....sex and a very European city. Jay wondered what making love in Paris would have done. Conceived a child maybe? He didn’t even like Paris all that much. It was too pretentious in a way Los Angeles definitely wasn’t. Yet his place was still filled with trash such as starlets and socialites famous for being completely talentless. He just chose to ignore such people who think they ruled the world because they had enough money. He hoped he didn’t behave like that. He didn’t think he did. He hoped, although not usually one to fuss over what people thought of him, that people didn’t see him that way.6131

Anyway Jay, as he assumed Adi felt the same way, was not yet ready to be a parent. The thing was he hated wearing condoms as he frequently told Adi when she told him to before their love-making sessions. Jay and Adi always had this argument before succumbing to each-other’s temptations. Jay mused this as he was sitting on the couch to the apartment they had booked. It was stylishly Spanish.....a style of elegant simplicity. It was much like the town of Malaga in which Jay took it upon himself to take Adi to in the hopes of being a class romantic. With his girlfriend and cousin out shopping so Jay sat admiring the view by himself. Adi came into the room from the bathroom where she was doing her make-up with Kat. It was her twenty-second birthday and she and Kat were repeating the events in July which took place in honour for Kat’s twenty-second. 6232

“Hey Cous, do you mind if I ask my girlfriend something in private for a minute,” Jay asked smoothly, from the couch where he’d been resting after finishing nearly an hour of footage. He had sent it via DVD disk to Los Angeles once it had been completed. Jay felt the same sense of accomplishment he always did when he completed footage. Once he’d done an hour or two of image readjusting and editing, as was his purpose as a film editor at TNM, he always rested for an hour or so then return to work. However, Adi made him promise to take her out tonight so he was all to happy to oblige seeing as it was her birthday. 6333

Adi came over to the couch looking hopeful. She knew there was dinner that night but she figured Jay may felt he couldn’t wait much longer and so may as well pop the question then and there. “So what was it you wanted to ask me?” 6434

“I was wondering what kind of engagement ring would you want me to buy if I were to buy you one.” Jay said, seeing Adi’s face fall. Adi had to admit she was surprised by his timing and of course the question itself. “I don’t know, I haven’t thought about it,” she purred as she snuggled up to him on the sofa. “I wouldn’t mind a ruby ring, 9 carat gold band with 9 carat diamonds on the side.” Jay grinned, putting an arm around her. “Natural, I assume.” Adi nodded, “What else?” 6535

“Like the fact I may propose to you? Adi, I just don’t think it’s the right time.” Jay repeated. Adi tried not to look more disappointed than she already was. “I know, and I know you bought me this stunning necklace but I mean, I’m never the type to be into material possessions, not that I don’t appreciate the necklace I mean.” Jay’s face looked somewhat relieved. Adi always maintained she didn’t want after expensive things but appreciated them all the same when she had or saw them. ‘Good, because my mother recommended it to me, I got her the one in silver knowing her neck is kind of darker than yours, so I got you the gold.” Adi kissed Jay on the cheek. “I love it,” she told him enthusiastically. Jay looked at the wall with relief. 6737

“Well, I’ve got to go,” Adi said getting up. It was then Kat’s turn to come out of the bathroom. “Coming,” she answered. “Let’s go.” She and Adi made a break for Malaga’s high-class shops. Jay lay on the sofa watching the September afternoon drift by. It seemed so slow. He thought of doing more footage but felt that he’d done enough.6838

‘I need to call the CEO’ he thought to himself, thinking he may as well make himself useful. 6939

He sipped his vodka, hoping to pass time. His thoughts were however interrupted by a knock. He reluctantly put down his vodka to answer. “Well, I can’t say I’m surprised,” he quipped as he opened the door to someone who was certainly no stranger.
