Mary Eden and Maze Diely, the best of friends. You couldnt find one without the other from the time they were five to the time they were 10. Mary was a bit of chicken, but Maze didnt dally with fright or tears. When they were 10 though Mary told Maze she was leaving, her and her mom were going to Kansas. Maze didnt cry though, not in front of Mary, shed never show Mary she was capable of crying, she had to be tough when Mary wasnt. Thats the ws it was in Mary's mind. But as soon as she was home tears started and stopped. Mary would live with Maze so she could finish out the school year while her mom went to kansas to get settled in. But the day Mary left Maze cried. She didnt want her best friend to leave her here all alone, Mary had always been there, and now something so small as alcohol and her moms new boyfriend was going to drag them half a country apart. And even though Mary said shed come back to see Maze every summer, one look at the boyfriend told her it would be a very long time until shed see her friend again, and it was. Two years later Ashley got a plane ticket home, her real home, and thats where it begins. 1
