Sparkle

When I woke up this morning I got the bestest surprise. My Daddy told me to follow him out into the yard and into the barn. I followed him even though I was still sleepy. I looked around the barn and suddenly I saw the most beautiful calf in the world. Our cow Dolly had become a mummy to a baby girl calf. I was so happy and surprised.1

I walked over to where Dolly and the new baby calf were. Daddy told me to be a bit quiet because Dolly was very tired. I put my hand on her head and said " You are great. I hope you feel good " Then I sat down on the straw beside the new baby calf. 2

"What is her name?" I asked Daddy but he had left the barn so he didn't answer. I stared at the new calf. Her coat was as shiny as the sun in the sky and she was so small compared to her mummy. She looked so cute. I decided that I would get up every morning and help daddy look after her. "You are so nice. I will make sure you are happy and safe" I whispered so as not to wake Dolly. Then I turned my head and saw Daddy coming back into the barn.3

"What is her name?" I asked again and this time Daddy was there to hear me say it. " You can decide Annie. You can choose her name. She can be your calf if you promise to look after her and be responsible"  I was so happy ! I hugged Daddy and said "Thank you. Thank you . Thank you. " 4

I stared down at the new baby calf again and whispered in her ear " I think I'll call you Sparkle. I love you " 5
