What Happened?! (Triad)

When Amber woke up the next day, she glanced at her mirror and read what Jos had written. Feelings of happiness overwhelmed her, and tears streaked her cheeks. She knew he really loved her, and she was happy to find someone that loved her, even though she wasn't perfect.1

"I have a really good guy," she thought to herself. "I mean, he puts up with all the shit I throw at him..."2

She took out her poetry journal and finds her favorite purple pen, the one that writes blue. She begins to write a poem to Jos. One that would capture how she felt about him. 3

"Joscelin, I love you4

I never want to lose you;6

I can't bare to be apart.7

Then she started thinking of another one. One that would make everything she wanted to say to him be heard.16

"Baby, I don't understand,17

why I fell in love with you."24

Just when Amber got the last "you" down, the phone rang. 25

"Hello?" Amber asked.26

"Yes, is Amber there?" the mysterious voice asked.27

"Yes, this is she," she admitted.28

"Hi Amber. This is Jos' mom," she weeped. "Joscelin was in a car wreck this morning."29

Amber fell to the floor and tried to hold back tears.30

"Is he okay?" she said with a lump in her throat.31

"Well, he's in ICU, but the doctors say he'll be okay. I just thought you would like to know. If you get some free time, will you come down here? He wants to see you!" his mother said. 32

"Of course I will!!!" Amber cried, half smiling. "Can I ask you how he wrecked?"33

"I don't know really. I think it was because the road was wet. I don't know. All I know is that if he wasn't wearing his seat belt, he probably would've died. The car was totaled." 34

"Oh, okay." 35

"Well, I will let you go. He'll be in here a while, 3 weeks at the least. He is having trouble breathing and has 6 broken bones. He looks like he's been in a fight with a professional wrestler. I hate to see him like this. I just know he's gonna be okay though. So please come when you get a chance."36

"I will," she said.37

Amber hung up the phone and just sat in the floor. She wondered how she would feel if his mother would've said he was dead. She wondered if she would be able to live with that. Luckily, she wouldn't have to find out yet. 38
