Caving

I do believe I am caving in. One too many complaints about my Irish grammar and how I use words improperly. How my sentence structure is redundant or just plain wrong. I have had one too many contests lost because the person running the contest found my saying "tis" and "twas" offensive and annoying. 1

I keep changing my style but I do not know if I like this. It all started with giving up referring to myself as "Me" with the "M" capitalized. Not many understand the dominant persona I suppose.Next came getting rid of all the (...) that I used. Apparently my "flow" became disrupted by all the (...) and maybe that one I do agree with when I look at my older pieces. 2

Now I suppose tis (oops I mean IT IS) time to get rid of the Irish lingo as well. At least... when it comes to contests. Tis okay for Me when just writing for Myself I am...ehhh?

What the hell, who's the jerk that said they found your Irish lingo annoying! *pummels them* Your writing is unique and beautiful because of the lovely accent, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a waste of your time. I personally find your accent to be very sexy You can't tell someone to "change" their writing style...obviously the person who found it "annoying" doesn't know or even appreciate the talent of such a gifted writer. The Irish language you integrate into your stories gives it the unique ingredients that makes them original and all the more appealing to read. Never change how you write, love! Don't let other people decide how to live your life.

    Much love Ink

Tis more than one "jerk" as you put it... but you are right. I should not be giving in to the pressures of other people.

NO!!! Part of the appeal of your writing is how you express yourself. I can hear your Irish accent loud and clear in your writing. Please do not change how you write!!!

I am so unclear about things...but I suppose tis who I am and if I write differently I shall not be Me anymore.

Exactly sweetie, just be yourself and let your writing flow naturally. Don't let someone else dictate your style!

Love, you know you aren't to change for anyone other then yourself. Tis a habit for you to speak the way you do and tis getting to by one for me as well (tallblondie said don't become Americanized maybe I am becoming a bit more Irish )

Don't let yourself become another homogenised, Americanised automaton! Please... just don't.

Storywrite is a collection of people around the world. Sure the site is managed in America, but it doesn't mean that everyone else must conform to American standards.

I'm Aussie - and I use Aussie/Brit spelling conventions - and always seem to need to remind Americans that their world view isn't the 'right' view.

As for the elipsis use (the '...') - that is stylistic. There are grammatical rules which govern its use - but it is allowable to use them from time to time.

You would do well to add you nationality to your author's notes - and especially your preference for the personal pronoun Me rather than I.

    Cheers

I have written on my page that I am Irish...blah blah... but still get so much bloody criticism that it gets tiring. Not so sure people care at any rate. Tis some sort of idea of the "proper way to write" out there. I can do it, it just requires my changing a bit. *shrugs* But will give the "author's notes" idea a go perhaps. Thank you for reading and giving feedback. Always good to hear from you.

Why change? I could understand if you were making grammatical errors, but if it is your style due to your nationality, there is no need to change just to suit what the Americans deem as the 'proper' way to write. Your nationality adds a unique 'flavour' to your writing, and those that can't recognise it due to their own prejudices are not really worth worrying about. Afterall, it is their problem, not yours.

Very good points and well taken. I believe I do agree that nationality adds a flavour to writing... and not just those of us who are Irish/Aussie either.
