Seriously, I have never thought about this: what inspired me to become a writer. Hmm, can't say I'm a writer now, just that I love writing. The first time I seriously wrote a story was when I was in Primary 3 or 4, around the age of 9 or 10. And that was for fun, just something for me to do 'cause I was bored, though I continued that story years later. My friend started it, I can't remember what really happened that day but I never threw the original story away. It's still with me, but the names are seriously childish(don't ask!). It was kept away until about 2 years later. We were supposed to write a journal to our teacher. With nothing to fill the pages, I decided to write the story in it instead. That was the first time I completed that story. The edited version, edited many times mind you, is "Family". The names were changed countless times, but the one in "Family" isn't the finalised one. That kind of inspired me to write more.1
More happened the next year, when I was 12, the year that changed me forever. I was introduced to a new classmate who just transferred to our class, a girl who is crazy about anime and all that. She influenced me and I started writing 2 more stories. That really started me writing, made me think about being a writer for a career. Now, a year later, I have been "recognised" by my teacher and been selected to try and join a Creative Arts Programme. I'm currently writing 7 stories to be submitted, out of which 1 I will hand in for a hope to be selected to join the Commonwealth Essay Competition, 2 who have been finalised, and 2 more incomplete stories. 1 of the stories is "Family", the very first story which I really completed. 2
To me, that is a story I will never forget and throw away; it is a story from my Primary School days. Through that story, I finally understood that I love writing. The feeling I get from writing.... Can't say I feel anything, just kind of glad to put the ideas down so I won't be so confused from thinking about them all day. Sometimes, I will keep thinking, hoping to have an idea on how to continue writing. Words are unable to describe that feeling, the feeling of joy when writing. It is something only fellow writers can understand.3
