Princess Kitty Chapter 3

The next morning, Mai-lei woke up grumpy, tired and bruised all over from last nights fall.  Glancing into the mirrior, She sighed unhappily. Her ears and tail were still there. And she couldn't shake the voices that kept replaying in her head.1

"Soon master, the child will be ours" kept repeating in her head. Mai-lei jammed a baseball cap on her head and her strech pants on hoped that her mom wouldn't notice as she came down the stairs.2

"Hey Mai-lei!" Mai-lei's little sister called, jumping down the stairs. "I like your cap." Cay was 5 years old and was still excited about going to school. "Thanks." Mai-lei mumbled, keeping her head down.3

Their Mom came into the dining room, all bright and chirpy. Just what Mai-lei needed. Not. "Good morning girls." She said in an unusually bright voice.4

Mai-lei jerked up in surprise. Her Mom had never sounded this happy after Dad took of to California with his new girl-friend. "I have a surprise for you all." she said, setting down the pancakes on the table. "I have a boy-friend! His name is Max."5

Mai-lei nearly choked in shock. Her mouth hung open. "Carefull," Cay said."I know someone who drowned that way." She left the table, apparently not shocked over the news that mom was dating.6

"Mom! How come you didn't ask me!" She almost whispered.
