Valiancy- Chapter 1

'Not again' Riley thought to himself.1

"Er... excuse me..." Riley said to the heavy boy in the way of his car door. The crowd was densely packed, all wondering who the car belonged to.2

"Hey, you can go around," He said.3

"It's MY car!"4

"Uh-huh, I'm sure it is."5

Riley pulled the his key ring out of his pocket and pressed the "Beep" button.6

The horn blared into the ears of the crowd, and they backed up immediately. 7

"Damn..." The fat boy muttered under his breath as Riley walked passed him.8

It seems like the only thing his Lamborghini Embolado didn't come with was a cloaking device.9

He backed carefully out of the crowd of people, and Riley suddenly felt much sympathy for celebrities.10

Riley got his car from his dad as an eighteenth birthday gift 3 weeks ago. His father was working in an architecture firm in Italy, and he had a friend named Ricardo, who just-so-happened to be the VP of the Lamborghini company. The car was originally going to be his father's, but he felt content with his prized Ferrari 360. There was no need to worry about car accidents, because Riley was by far the best driver in the family, and possibly the town.12

Riley sped to his house, threw off his backpack, and went straight up stairs to his room. He booted up his laptop, checked his MySpace, and played some very loud music.13

He whipped out his cell phone, and checked his texts. 14

"From Lee"15

"Hey man! Finally Thanksgiving Break!!! I thought we would NEVER get a break. Anyway, head down to the park, everyone's gonna be there! Evan, Jack, Eric, Rick, Dustin, Monique, Claire, and Alexis."16

Riley replied, "What? No Katie?"17

Riley remembered back when they were both Freshmen, and Lee asked Katie out. They had the most long-lasting relationship in the school, he figured.18

About 15 seconds later, "I TOLD YOU ALREADY!! She's in New Jersey for break. Apparently it's beautiful over there during the fall."19

"Oh ok. I'll head over right now."20

Riley biked to the park.22

It was so close, that there was no need for driving. 23

When he got in view of the small crowd of people, Lee came riding towards him on his free-line skates. He was the only person in town who had a pair of them, and he had them since he was in eighth grade.24

"Watch out, I think Claire and Evan might burst out into another kissing frenzy again."25

Riley laughed. Last week at school, Evan and his girlfriend Claire were sitting next to each other in Trigonometry, when suddenly they started making out.26

They rode into the small crowd of people, causing them to scatter in every direction. 27

Monique slapped Riley's arm. "You almost killed me!"28

"Sorry!" Riley had many bruises from that girl.29

"Look Riley!!! I got new converses!" Alexis said, pointing to her feet.30

"Um... wow," Riley said. The converses were black, with lime green polka dots. 31

Jack was ranting to Dustin and Rick about 'Shotgun Jefferson', a comedy story he had just written.32

They stayed at the park, having fun until very late. 33

Finally, at 10:30, Riley, Jack, and Lee were the last ones still there.35

"See ya' Jack!" Riley said. 36

"See you guys Wednesday?"37

"Yeah, sure," Lee replied.38

Riley and Lee sat at a bench, talking until they heard Jack's car drive off.39

Suddenly they heard yelling and shouting. 40

They looked in the general direction, and saw a couple facing eah other. The guy, who Riley recognized as kid from their school, was holding a beer bottle. He was waving his arms and shouting at the girl. The girl had tears running down her cheeks.41

"Ugh, I hate guys like that!" Lee said acidicly.42

The boys kept watching.43

They kept screaming at each other.44

All of a sudden the man picked up his empty beer bottle and hit her over the head!45

"Hey!" Lee shouted, worried.46

The girl fell to the ground unconcious, but bleeding. 47

The boys quickly jumped up and ran over.48

"What is your problem?! I'm calling the police!" Lee screamed.49

The man stared at him with a blank expression, and staggered slightly.50

Just as Lee reached for his cell phone, the huge man swung a fist at the center of Lee's face.51

He was immediatley knocked out. 52

Riley was scared. He didn't know what to do.53

The strong man started staggering towards him.54

Riley left his cell phone at the bench with his bike. He could probably outrun him, but he was paralyzed wit hfear and shock.55

Suddenly, the drunken man lunged at him. 56

He easily avoided him, and kicked him in a place where men don't like to be kicked.57

He ran over to Lee and the other girl, who was also from his school. He checked their wounds, and then grabbed Lee's cell phone. He dialed 911 as he inspected the girls wounds. She had numerous gashes across her skull, and the blood was leaking into her brunette hair, making it unnaturally shiny. 58

"911 operator, what is your emergency?"59

"I'm at 9th and-"60

Suddenly Riley felt a tremendous stabbing pain in his spine area.61

He turned around slowly and saw that the man had stabbed a glass shard into his back.62

"Hello... hello? Are you there sir?"63

The last thing Riley heard before blacked out was the man grunt and walk away.64
